Everly's first visit with a doctor, an integrated medicine physician.

Everly had her first doctors appointment this week, her 2 month checkup. We saw an integrated medicine physician who seems to be right up our alley in her care philosophy. She’s not pushy about vaccinations and didn’t freak out when we mentioned E was a homebirth baby.

Integrated medicine is a mix between alternative medicine and traditional medicine. When there is a health issue things like nutrition, life style and various alternative therapies are often explored first before prescription medications or other more dramatic solutions are used.

We prefer to take the natural route with our health care when possible, I am sure this is no surprise to you considering how Everly was born.

Anyway, back to the updates. Everly weighed in at a whopping 11.8 lbs and had a great checkup with the doc. She’s gaining weight very well and is reaching all the milestones for her age group according to the doctor.

We’ve not started her first vaccinations yet and are doing research on them right now. We know we’ll do some vaccinations. We just want to do them on a delayed schedule and spread them out more than what’s normally done.

We are so happy that Everly is doing so well. It’s a relief to have a good doctor for her too, in case she gets sick or something. Oh, this doctor is actually a family practice doctor so we can all be cared for by her, that is another plus! She’s covered by our insurance too.

That means I’ve got a handle on the baby stuff, for now… Not so much on the pet issues though.

  1. I’m old enough to have witnessed the horrible diseases of polio and diptheria. My children all suffered with chicken pox which means they are now susceptible (as am I) to shingles which are much worse and can cause a life-long nerve pain problem.

I’ve seen meningitis caused by H1b and death or permanent brain damage was almost always the result unless treatment was given within hours.

Vaccination is, to my way of thinking, a very natural way of mitigating natural consequences. It triggers the immune system with a sometimes unnoticeable form of the disease, but avoids the serious complications of the “natural” form of the disease. It is not a bad thing, it a wonder of modern science and medicine.

Vaccines are far from perfect but they are so much better than the diseases they prevent.

I’m glad you have found a doctor you can relate to. This is very important. But I cannot stress the importance of vaccines enough.

  2. I am so glad you guys found a doctor for everly and yourselves that you like and can relate to. We love our pediatition office and Aubrie has seen the same doc since she was born. They are really good with her and my brothers girls love them as well. It says alot when a 7 and 9 year old recomend a doctor. =) We just got aubries first round of shots this week and she did great. was fussy for the rest of that day and slept alot but was fine and back to normal the next day. It is improtant to get vaccines. I know there is alot of material out there on them and some people even say they cause more problems than they prevent but I still felt they where improtant so we did decide on getting Aubrie vacinated. You will make the choice that is right for Everly and your family.

  3. Vaccines are such a hot topic! You know how I feel about them, I won’t comment here. It’s SO VERY wonderful you found a practitioner who treats using both methods. I want to find one that my insurance will cover, since I’ve been doing our alternative medicine out-of-pocket.
