How do they perceive you??

The way a person chooses to approach a situation can dictate the response that person gets in return. I teach dance at a high school. I have student leaders who help me teach the students. This is a lesson they are learning first hand. Have you ever been approached by someone who is just obviously in a bad mood?? I come into contact with these types of people everyday in my hotel job. Have you ever noticed that you respond differently to these people?? Do you find yourself reacting in a defensive way because of the way they came at you?? I catch myself doing this. It is actually a very natural response for us. People don’t like being attacked or jumped all over so they naturally react in a way that...

Alternative Hair Removal Recipe

Sugaring is an alternative form of hair removal. Some people believe it is better for your skin than waxing because all the ingredients are natural and less likely to clog pores. Sugaring is an ancient method of hair removal that was first practiced in the Middle East. The sugar mixture is heated to form a tacky paste. It is spread in the direction of hair growth, allowed to cool and is then ripped off the skin in the opposite direction of the hair growth. Some choose to use paper or cloth strips to press against the sugar mixture once applied to the skin. The cloth/ paper is then pulled off to remove the hair and the sugar mixture. Others choose not to use strips, they simply pull the tacky sugar mixture...

Let It Begin With Me

New Year makes optimists of us all. When we make our resolutions and prepare to start a fresh new chapter in our lives (as Anne of Green Gables said, “With no mistakes in it”) we embrace the hopefulness of the clean slate, the chance to do it better, to do it right. Isn’t that really the goal? What are the behaviors we can embrace that could truly create a better, more peaceful, more spirit-centered world? Here are some radically loving, liberating ideas to help us be the change we want to see; it really can begin with each one of us. 1. Embrace yourself right now, just as you are, with love and compassion. Period. Not, “I’ll be okay after I lose that last ten pounds.” Not “I’ll be terrific once I...

Our bodies, Our health.

Our body, Our health. "Many people treat their bodies as if they were rented from Hertz -- something they are using to get around in but nothing they genuinely care about understanding." -- Chungliang Al Huang When I read this statement I could not agree more. So many people are so unhealthy these days. Whether it is from poor eating habits or lack of exercise most of our sickness and lack of health is our own doing. I am a firm believer in the power of herbs. I also believe the less processed our food is the more nutritious it is for us. Chemicals and unnatural substances are not doing us very much good in my opinion. Lets think about all the commercials we see on TV about the specially developed drugs that are...

A day off…. to cook and be lazy!

We are supposed to get a storm in the next few days with the possibility of SNOW!!! Good old Flagstaff, AZ has been miserable this winter without the snow. Nathan and I are really hoping for this promised storm!! So we were both off work today and we sort of had a lazy day. We did computer stuff (emails, site updates etc.), then we went to check out the newly built Bed Bath & Beyond and we got some fun stuff. We don’t have many big stores here in Flagstaff so the visit to this new store was quite exciting for us. We found a two-burner griddle for $19.99 with a $10.00 rebate… Yes, that is a $9.99 griddle with the works!! We also got some fun candles. After our houseware shopping...

Welcome home, come enjoy the vomit with me

So today has been fun!! I first had one of my girls come up to me and declare she wanted to quit the group because she feels she is holding everyone back. So I had to diffuse that situation and I found out some of the other team members are making this girl feel bad. They are telling her she is not trying enough and just not being supportive. That is an issue I will need to address tomorrow.. When I got home N yelled at me "Welcome home, come enjoy the vomit with me!". He was sitting on our patio that we just decorated with newly bought flowers and herbs. Apparently the lovely neighbors drank too much and vomited over their balcony and onto our patio.. Boy was he mad...

Eventful times: Chalk in my eye!

Alrightie, It’s time to write a blog. I have been really occupied over the last two days. Mostly because both N and I had time off work and we were really trying to spend some time together. Okay so I am going to start telling you about Tuesday- My plan was to take N out for a nice dinner, you know sort of a celebration night. We haven’t really been able to celebrate his new position and his accomplishments so I wanted to plan (and pay for) a really nice night out. The plan was to go out on Tuesday since it was the first of our two days off. I got off work @ 7am so naturally I was tired and needed a nap. I went and taught my 4th...

Sometimes you have to speak up for yourself!!!

Okay, so this morning on my way home from work I fell asleep while driving!! Nothing too terrible happened, just drove off the road on to the shoulder. Didn't hit any cars, people, animals or trees! I was very shook up though! I have never dozed off while driving, EVER!! Today was my first and man was it scary! I called Nathan so he could help me stay awake till I got home. So I had to put my foot down with the boss about the scheduling thing...

Hola maintenance!!! Apartment living blows.

So, the new apartment (apartment #2 in flagstaff @ Timberline Village) is slowly getting unpacked and things are becoming more and more normal by the day. We are keeping the cats locked in our bedroom at night then we let them out to roam the house when were around to supervise them. One of my students had a really good idea on how to keep them out of the window. She said “you know the rolly things that you put your computer chair on? The downside is all pokey so if you get one of those and cut a piece just big enough for the window ledge it should work.” I think we will try that idea, it will probably work great!! Morgan you should get patent on that idea!! So...

Rootbeer explosion!!!!

Okay so here is a funny AND very true story: So N brews his own beer. He decided to try out a batch of root beer for us to try. So it has yeast in it, it sits and ferments creating the carbonation. It was brewed in a one gallon glass bottle/ jar thingy. You know the kind you can buy gallons of beer in at a microbrewery… He followed all the steps and we tried our first glass. It has a real yeasty taste to it, tasted more like beer than root beer. We didn’t like it very much. Anyway he took it out of the fridge because we didn’t like it and hadn’t planned on drinking anymore of it. It was sitting on the counter, we hadn’t gotten around to...

Toxins and Detoxification

It is amazing how complex our bodies are. Most people (myself included) really fail to understand and fully appreciate the complexity of our bodies. Our bodies are designed to naturally remove toxins in order to keep us healthy. The natural process of detoxification is remarkably complex, finely tuned and simply amazing. It is one of those things we don’t fully appreciate or respect until it is lacking. Did you know "it is conservatively estimated that up to twenty-five percent of the U.S. population suffers from heavy metal poisoning to some extent"? (quote taken from the Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine). So how are we getting so much metal into our bodies?? The air we breathe contains lead (leaded gasoline contributes more than 600,000 tons of lead into the atmosphere that is inhaled or ingested),...

Small businesses

I work in the service industry and have for many years. I have done everything from banquet serving to working as a front desk agent. I have also done retail sales and I am a dance teacher. Everything I am surrounded by is people orientated so naturally I am very sensitive to good/ bad service. I love shopping in the privately owned small businesses because of the great service and the “I care” attitude. What is better is we are helping to support others who truly love what they do. I think small businesses are truly special because “they are run by real people who strive to provide real interactions and “above and beyond” customer service.” (quote taken from: www.CraftedCustomGifts.com) I want to encourage everyone reading this to explore some small...
