Home remedy for grasshopper control??

Okay, I need some help from all my readers!! I moved into a new place where the tenants did not bother to tend to or water the backyard area. This has resulted in the yard becoming infested with grasshoppers. When I moved in I brought all my plants and they are now being munched to death!! I am in desperate need of some natural ways to deter or kill these annoying hoppers!! I would prefer to do this organically. Does anyone know any tips or home remedies for controlling grasshoppers?? If so post them here.. Thanks a ton!! August 23rd 2006 I have found that allowing your cats to all go outside to play with the grasshoppers is a good way to get rid of them. It's entertaining too, ha!! Seriously though,...

Happiness and the power to create your own reality.

Do you believe that happiness is something you experience as a direct result of some outside influence? (when I say “outside influences” I mean things that are outside ourselves) Honestly, take a moment to reflect on the question. Most of you will answer “yes” to the question and that is because society has taught us to associate happiness with outside influences. We feel happy after going out and having fun, after seeing family or friends, after a compliment or a great achievement. It is normal and very common to experience happiness that results from outside influences. Have you ever noticed that some people who seems to have everything they could ever need (comfort, financial stability, friends, love etc) aren’t happy? We can all think of at least one celebrity that fits this...

We are moved in… What a journey!

Moving is a hassle, everyone knows that. You have to load up all your junk, transport it to another place and then sort it all out again. It is not a fun process but we all have to do it once in a while (or in our case every year) so you just learn to deal with it and you try to be smart about it. We tried really hard to be smart about, things worked out a bit screwy anyway though! Our moving plan: Load the truck up and clean the old place 7/30/06. Finish cleaning up, get the keys to our new place, do the old place’s inspection and then begin moving things into the new...

On trust and perception

“Our perception determines our experience” (I got this quote from: http://krisraphael.com) Today I am seeking knowledge and personal growth. My partner and I are at a point in our relationship where we both have some emotional growing to do. We are both yearning for a closer, deeper relationship but we both have emotional blocks that are preventing us from experiencing what we so deeply want. My issue is TRUST. I have a really hard time trusting others because of all the let downs in my past. I am aware of this which is good (most people aren’t even aware when they have trust issues) but I really have no idea where to begin working on the problem. When I find myself stuck or confused I write and read a lot. I truly...

On attitude, loss and struggle…

“I am responsible. Although I may not be able to prevent the worst from happening, I am responsible for my attitude toward the inevitable misfortunes that darken life. Bad things do happen; how I respond to them defines my character and the quality of my life. I can choose to sit in perpetual sadness, immobilized by the gravity of my loss, or I can choose to rise from the pain and treasure the most precious gift I have – life itself.” ~ Walter Anderson...

Start living life for yourself!!!

Some people think they need to have all the answers in life. The idea is that we all must make the right choices, please the right people, do the right thing, say the right thing, feel the right thing etc. I really believe that is just not humanly possible. With all the different varieties of people in the world there is just no way to please everyone! Besides you are only going to have yourself to face in the end.Like most people I never want to look back and wish I had done things differentially. I don't want to have regrets and missed chances haunting me when I am old. I live my life seeking personal happiness and I try to do "the right thing" along the way. I...

Adorable purses, the BBB and more!!

Today is my first day off from my resort job and I have so much to get done as usual!! I started the day off by checking email and getting back to people regarding various things. I notice I have received a reply from the BBB (Better Business Bureaus) regarding my issues with a local mechanic. The mechanic is telling the BBB he has issued us a check that reimburses us for all our incurred expenses resulting from them using twist ties to put our car back together. I called Nathan to confirm that we do not have a check from them, I check our mail just to make sure then I inform the BBB of this. In the process of checking the mail for the reimbursement check I discovered that...

Abandoned baby birds….

Last night after coming home from work at midnight I discover Nathan and two baby birds sitting outside the front door. The two babies weren’t flying and Nathan wasn’t sure what to do with them so he sat outside reading a magazine and awaiting my arrival so he could ask me what I think. When I got home we decided to get them off the sidewalk area so we moved them to out patio where they wouldn’t get stepped on. We had assumed they were babies from the nest that is on our patio. We let them sit on a blanket outside all night, we didn’t want to try and bring them inside to raise them, we knew they once had the ability to fly since they were out of the nest...

Conflict resolution and leadership- How to communicate and be heard.

Conflict resolution is something all leaders must deal with at one time or another. Conflict is inevitable. People are bound to disagree, take things the wrong way, and/ or develop feelings about others. When a conflict arises in a team situation it puts a strain on everyone on the team regardless of whether or not they are involved in the conflict. Dealing with conflicts can be a very difficult and uncomfortable process for everyone involved. Many people will choose to ignore the issue because they don't want to deal with it. However, conflict resolution is absolutely necessary in a team atmosphere. Over time if the conflict is not resolved it will divide the team which makes striving towards a common goal that much harder. The hardest aspect of conflict resolution is communication....

What is Endometriosis??

What is Endometriosis?? "Endometriosis is a painful, chronic disease that affects 5 1/2 million women and girls in the USA and Canada, and millions more worldwide." (taken from www.endometriosisassn.org) Basically endometriosis is a condition where endometrium (tissue the lines the uterus) grows in places it should not (outside the uterus). "This misplaced tissue develops into growths or lesions which respond to the menstrual cycle in the same way that the tissue of the uterine lining does: Each month the tissue builds up, breaks down, and sheds. Menstrual blood flows from the uterus and out of the body through the vagina, but the blood and tissue shed from endometrial growths has no way of leaving the body. This results in internal bleeding, breakdown of the blood and tissue from the lesions,...

What would you do today if you weren't afraid to fail??

What would you do today if you weren't afraid to fail?? I try to ask myself this question every day. I also try to push myself outside my comfort zone at least once each day. To me this is essential to personal growth. It is also really hard to do. Trying something you have never done can seem very scary and uncomfortable. Often times we talk ourselves out of even attempting something just because we think we will fail. As we grow older we somehow develop the idea that we must always be perfect, successful and that we must never allow ourselves to look silly or to fail. It may be ego, insecurity, fear or any number of other things that prevents us from even attempting certain things. When we make...
