Yesterday I posted about Raising baby finches – week 2 updates. I looked back in my blog post history to see when the first baby hatched. It was December 4th. Before looking back to see just how old the babies were I was gray-finch.JPGsure the were preparing to try flying. After reading the available info my idea was crushed because 2 week and 4 day old birds don’t try to fly!

I called my mom and told her that I wouldn’t be able to give a live finch as a gift but that I would still give the finch, it just wouldn’t be ready to leave the parents for several more weeks.

This morning N woke me up, I was sleeping in because I took nighttime cold medicine. He informed me that our “gray” baby finch had left the nest and was flying around and that I might like to come see it!

What a pretty finch! The beak and head are grayish/ silver and the body is white. We are so excited that the finch is flying and “spreading it’s wings”, now we have two more to go… Watching these little guys develop and grow has been such a cool experience!

The premise of the book, Sex Detox Book is “when it comes to sex and relationships, sometimes we get in so deep the only way out is to start over again”. I am just staring the book but I think it my be right up my alley! If you have ever felt disconnected from your partner, lacking real intimacy or as I would put it “like you are roommates” you may be interested in reading this book!

I started the book today and thought the beginning of the book was quite intriguing. I was sold on the idea of a “sex detox” and continued to read. The ideas presented in the beginning of the book seem like they would benefit me. I am very excited about the ideas of this book but I have to admit I am totally aggravated by the redundant explanation of what will be discussed in the book. They way I understand it (I only read to page 7 so far) the author believes that you can re kindle your intimacy and sex by going without for a period of 30 days. This absence will help you to reconnect with your partner in an emotional way. The absence of physical intimacy will make you miss it and will drive you to fulfill your intimate desires in more substantial way, via the mind.

It seems like every self help book I have read lately follows the same format of introducing the concept, explaining why you need it, you become intrigued and are ready to learn more but the book continues to explain what will be explained in the book, forever. This begins to bore me, it makes me want to stop reading the book and it irritates me. Just adequately present the concept in the beginning of the book and then get on with it. I don’t want to read 30 pages about what you are going to present later in the book, I already know what the concept is and I am still reading so I obviously want to learn more, I don’t need further convincing.

Anyway, I skipped the “What You’ll Encounter in This Book” section when I realized this book began to follow the redundant explanation trend. Actually the redundant explanation was not as long as I though it would be, I just didn’t want to read the same info presented in another way. So, I went straight to chapter 2 which ironically enough started out with “we live in a culture of instant gratification”… Well, I am just a perfect example of that with my rant about the ongoing explanations of what the book is about huh?

The book really ties together the connections between our past, our present and how these two aspects shape our future. Many people suffer from “neurally reinforced” habits or behaviors that are subconscious/ that they are unaware of that often times are the root of our relationship problems and thus affect our intimacy.

The program in this book consists of different stages (observation, recognition, de-coupling, engagement and regulating) that are intended to help you recognize triggers and work beyond them so you can love and be loved in a more fulfilling and healthy way.

If you feel your romantic life is not where it needs to be you may benefit from reading this book. It is released in February 2008 and if you click the photo posted above you can visit amazon.com and pre-order your copy today. When I finish the book I’ll write more about it here. Happy reading!

“The THOUGHTS we choose to think are the tools we use to paint the canvas of our lives.” – Louise Hay

So much of life is a self fulfilling prophecy. We can very easily become products of our environment if we allow it. This is a very difficult concept for people to understand and it is even harder for those that have had trauma in their lives.

It is so easy to believe that bad things are bound to happen to you especially when that is all you have experienced up to this point. but think about it, you were expecting bad things to happen right? Then they did and you proved yourself right which in turn solidified your belief in the notion that bad things are bound to happen to you which made you think more about bad things.

If you expect the bad and spend the majority of your day dwelling on the negative that is all you are going to experience because that is all you are attracting to you. I firmly believe this and I’ll share an experience that illustrates it.

Back in November 2005 we were notified that the television station (where my partner works) was being sold, this meant the possibility of being uprooted without much notice. This was hard for me to deal with because I had just started to build a life for myself in this new town where we had just moved to. I built up my freelance choreographer/ instructor job, had many contacts/ opportunities. I made all new friends in this town and we were just getting settled in and getting ahead. Moving would disrupt everything and it would mean starting all over again.

My first instinct was to be upset about the predicament, it was so easy to be angry and defeated by it all. After the initial shock and grief I tried very hard to view things in a different light. I began getting excited about change and lately my thinking has been that we will end up in a place where we will be most happy and successful.

I did not think about what I didn’t want and I did not have my heart set on a particular place or situation. I just trusted that destiny would put us where we belonged and that we would prosper.

In the last two weeks I have changed jobs (for the better) and this week I just got promoted! My partner was informed that his company has interest in keeping him at the TV station (the station never sold) which means we are staying right where we are. I am continuing my freelance work with the local high school and also with the university and I have an opportunity to help out an old coworker this summer with his new high school program. Our full time jobs are paying us more and we have been working to clean up our credit so we can buy a home in the next 4-6 months.

Everything is falling into place and I don’t think it is simply luck!

Try to modify your thinking and see how your life changes. Whether it is the laws of attraction or optimism or whatever it does work. Try it!
