I guess cooking and baking was so ingrained in them that they knew things had to be done a certain way! Now I try to cross reference with an internet recipe.

My MIL makes a special cake with lady fingers (can’t remember the name of it) and sometimes she has to special order the lady fingers at the grocery store months in advance. Good for you for making your own!
