The post Snow and ice are here but we still have power, woot! appeared first on Updates from Ryder Family Farm.
]]>Like I’ve said in previous posts people in this town are snow wimps, snow doesn’t happen that often here and is not managed well by the city so I guess it is only natural for them to freak out whenever a winter storm is headed our way.
Anyway we did get some snow and ice, not the 3 inches they said we would though. School is canceled for many and the roads are not looking good. Many people are also getting themselves in to trouble thanks to the weather. Here are some photos I took of the conditions. Just click on them to view a larger image.
We are still doing fine here in Evansville. The roads are not in good condition and it turns out the city only has like 12 snowploughs so we don’t expect our residential streets to get ploughed at all unlike in Flagstaff, AZ.
Oh and the storm is supposed to last several days so that means we wont get sunshine until Thursday to thaw our residential street. Awesome!
N does have to work today so he’ll be braving the poor road conditions and dealing with all the crazy people speeding around on iced roads. Everyone needs to just slow down and refrain from erratic driving! If you don’t and you hit my hubby while he is driving you are going to have one pissed pregnant lady on your case! Just saying…
Oh and my site host sucks a big one as some of you have noticed. They had some database issues overnight and my sites database was inaccessible as a result. If you stopped by earlier and saw the database server error it is all thinks to them. Get it together Siteocity!

We awoke early Monday morning to this sight of about 1/2 an inch of snow. What we normally consider a “dusting”. Well we got to see first hand how the town shuts down over winter weather…
Yeah so I wrote this post yesterday morning talking about how silly it was to see the entire town just shut down as a result of the measly amount of snow. Then i settled in and watched the inauguration and tweeted my thoughts.
Well now that I’ve come back to the blog today to respond to comments and to work on today’s post I realize that somehow this post’s completed version just disappeared from the database and is no longer published on the site. WTF? I am not going to lie I am a bit peeved right now!
Well here are the photos I wanted to share with you when I initially tried sharing this post. I have no idea what I actually wrote about them since all that data is now gone. It seems many comments that were made last night were also lost and I have no idea why.

Oh, I know I also wrote about how we got to feel Tater Tot’s first noticable movements on Saturday. It was exciting and N was so pleased to be able to experence the kicks. Now he has a way to be connected to the baby, through the kicks and movements.
You know these first movements were not anything like what my pregnacy books explained. The books say that you’ll feel like a fluttering or something subtle but I had full on body checking going on inside me! It was like a greamlin was inside me trying to scratch and rip it’s way out.
So yeah, I think that is all I wrote about when I drafted this post yesterday. Also if you are looking arround here and notice that a comment you left is now missing don’t take it personally, my blog just ate it or something and now it (like this post) are lingering in cyberspace lost and making me crazy.
Oh, I also vagely recall pimping my baby weight contest when I drifted this. So yeah, I now weigh 112 at 17 weeks which is 12 pounds of gained weight. Now go forth and place your bet in the baby weight contest so you can win cash! Also, for those of you harassing me I have now added Tater Tot’s wishlists to the side bar of this blog to make it easier.
Now if this post dissappears once I publish it I am going to scream!

]]>N is anticipating the prenatal appointments because he gets anxious to hear that little Tater Tot’s heart is still beating. He admitted last night that it is hard for him to trust that all is going as planned with Tater Tot inside my uterus since he can’t feel any movement yet or experience the growth and body changes I am going through. Although he does admit to having sympathy symptoms right along with me.
I let him feel the tightness in my lower belly where Tater Tot is growing, let him feel where my uterus presses extra hard on my bladder and intestines so he got little belly field trip to help him feel better. We have about another month to go until we find out if Tater Tot is a boy or a girl, we probably wont have another ultrasound picture until then either.
In other news I have a gianormous zit on my neck that is making me a bit crazy, it is like a second head is growing or something and no matter what I do to it (including stabbing it with a sewing needle) it will not pop or go away. I thought you might like to know about this but I wont be photographing it for you, sorry. All you get is poo photos! On second thought why not take a photo of the zit for you? I am not shy!

Oh and did I mention that we still have not had a single snow fall here this winter? Today we have more craptastic freezing rain but no frigging snow! We are never going to see snow ever again, isn’t that wonderful? Ooo looks like that freezing rain has turned to snow! Hurray, we get to see some fluffy white stuff falling. It isn’t sticking but it is still nice to see.
I told N that I would not be sad about moving from this town at the end of his 3 year contract, of course we will try to stay in this general vicinity of the US since we spent so much moving here and all. Anywhere near here that is foresty and gets snow is fine with me, this place is nasty.

]]>
Well, I awoke this morning to lots of fluffy white stuff falling and covering everything. We were foretasted for some thunderstorms last night and today. The possibility of snow was mentioned but no accumulation was expected. Here that means the snow melts as soon as it hits the ground.
Doesn’t look like that is the case today, the schools called a 2 hour snow delay and we had to scrape snow from the car before I could take N to work. I am sure it will melt away throughout the day. It is May for crying out loud, snow in May is not the norm!
We got back from visiting my mother yesterday and were exhausted. N had been on the road for 2 days prior to us visiting family then we stayed with my mom for 3 days.. Basically he was on the road for 5 days straight.
We always have some temperature shock and allergy issues when visiting family down in phoenix.. It is generally 30 degrees warmer where they live and about 6000 feet in elevation change.. it kicks our butts! So, when we got home in addition to being beat I had to put the house back together (the cats usually freak out when we are gone).. That is why I posted a meme yesterday instead of telling you all about our trip.
You guys know that my mom and I set out to make soap for mothers day, my mom was really excited about it. She saw this particular recipe on Martha Stuart for goat’s milk soap that was all natural. The one thing my mom was not able to pick up before we got to her home was the lye needed for the soap. We went on a quest for lye, which is said to be sold at any hardware store. We went by home depot, lowes, ace hardware and even frys.
After hitting every store we could think of we did not find the lye, we headed back home to make some phone calls to track down the lye.
Nobody knew what lye was or carried it and the process of trying to get help over the phone was enough to make your blood boil. One place had us on hold forever (6 minutes) and then it turned out the phone was in an employees locker, that is why it took so long for someone to help us!
Lye is sodium chloride which is used in pool chemicals, drain cleaner, to make soap and a number of other things. Apparently it is also used to make meth (seen the movie Fight Club?) so commercial sale has practically been stopped and sales associates have no clue what lye is or which products contain it.
Many products contain Lye (like Draino, which also contains metal shavings) but finding pure lye turned out to be impossible in Phoenix. You can buy lye online but that wasn’t going to help us to make the goats milk soap that day.. So we decided to make the soap another day, when we can order lye online and have it shipped in.
So, we weren’t able to make the soap but we had plenty to keep us busy! I’ll post more about the trip tomorrow, lets just say it involves snakes, chickens and baby chicks.. It is way too much for one post!

That means gardening fun is about to begin for us! The crocus blooms are a beautiful yellow and are quite cheerful. They are kind of short, like they were planted too deep but it still so great to see them even if they are short.
Do you have any early spring bulbs that are blooming yet? I hope so because I am dying for spring time!
So, now that the ice is melting and the bulbs are blooming we are able to get into the large box of crap that was left behind by the people who lived here before us. Guess what we found? Personal documents and credit cards, can you believe that?
Teeni was just talking about how we all need to take steps to protect our personal information and then I find some poor schmucks personal information and a credit card just sitting in a box outside (that was buried in the snow) by the front door of the home we are renting.
Be responsible with your personal information guys! Shred documents that you no longer need so that nobody can obtain your info.. That way you are protected.
Once while we were living in an apartment complex we found a complete computer sitting by the trash can. We grabbed it thinking we could use parts off of it and realized it still had all this personal information on it.
The computer actually belonged to the apartment complex manager. It had the tenants personal information on it, rental contracts, notices etc.. We reported it and were furious.
Folks, if the personal information you are responsible for (yours or someone else’s) mistakenly gets into the wrong hands lives can be ruined. Be responsible and be careful!
