I love boxed wine, don't laugh at me.

I can’t drink red wine, it give me a headache that lasts days (yes even just the one glass). Besides I had a rather embarrassing night at a strip club on amateur night thanks to red wine so I prefer to drink the blush or white wine.

The other day while we were shopping at Sam’s Club I was comparing the beringer white zin and the sutter home white zin when N suggested we try out the Franzia boxed white zinfandel instead.

After seeing fellow bloggers who stocked up on the boxed wine right before hurricane Ike hit I was willing to give it a whirl. For starters it is 5 liters which is cheaper, has less waste than 5 bottles of non boxed wine and it doesn’t get all nasty when I open the bottle and then store the left over wine for another night.

What? N and I don’t finish off a bottle of wine per night folks, we only each have a glass… Sometimes N has two. We’re not drunks, he…

Anyway, I love boxed wine. Don’t judge me okay? Now I just wish some better vinyards would box their wine cause Franzia is not the best. Yeah I am blogging while drinking wine, shhh!

  1. Box wine ROCKS! Sadly the biggest here is 4 litres. I still buy some bottles, cause I have a wine rack and they just look nice, and when people are here, somehow it looks better. Me though? Oh crack that little spigot open. I have to ask though, when you get to the final drops in the box, do you blow the inner bag up with your mouth to make sure you dont miss any? Back in the day, they use to be silver bags (now they are clear) and we would blow them up when every drop was gone, and give them to the kids to play with (ohhh silver balloons they squeeled!) or use them as bath pillows.
Sadly, I am only drinking coffee,, lol.

  2. I take a lot of flak from my children about my box wine. They’ve all got the nice fully stocked wine racks and one even subscribes to some wine connoisseur magazine.

What I hate when visiting them is, unless they are present when I want a glass of wine, I’m afraid to choose a bottle on my own. I don’t know which ones are expensive, good, special to them in some way…

Having learned it’s in their interest to keep Mama happy, they usually have a box of Franzia chardonnay on hand when I visit now 🙂

On the other hand, I love red wine and have not found a good one in a box yet. And really, I’m not that picky; the boxed reds are just bad.

  3. @Donna B.: Well, it was my first night out with N’s coworkers right after we just moved to Flagstaff, AZ. Basicaly they wanted me to give it a try since I was a dance teacher and the poor girl who was stripping was not very good.

I refused so they had the DJ announce to everyone in the place that I should dance, they all tried to get me up there… I took my top off and sat there watching the rest of the girls take their turns but gladly I did not fully strip.

One of my students fathers could have been in there and that is just not good for business. I can’t believe I just took my top off and sat there enjoying the rest of the show. Made his coworkers think very highly of me!

  4. I wish I liked wine. I’ve tried so many different types. I just can’t get past the “winey” taste. So, you feel free to drink whatever the heck it is that you like and enjoy it!

Your strip club night sounds funny! I have to admit that I’ve done something very similar:)

  5. I have a new blog starting, I had problems with my last one, and I notice you have me in your blog roll. So far it is only the basic, but I will be ‘tweeking’ over the next day or so. Suprising what a box of wine will inspire me to do,, lol.
