Pledge to buy handmade this holiday!!

Buy handmade buttonWith all the toy recalls, the ethics of big businesses and the state of the economy many consumers are looking for holiday shopping alternatives this year. As a small craft business owner I prefer to support fellow small business owners and this year I joined thousands of other consumers and pledged to buy handmade this holiday! You can take the pledge too and find some cool handmade stuff over at buyhandmade.org

Why buy handmade?

  • Handmade gifts are usually great keepsakes, give a gift this year that the recipient will keep and use for more than one year! Many of the current “hot gifts” are short lived fads that are obsolete within a year. If you don’t believe me check out this blog post about the fads back in the 70’s!
  • Gift giving used to be about sentiment not about getting the latest hot product. Gifts with sentimental value are more cherished and are held onto longer than the mass produced stuff so buy something with meaning this holiday season!
  • These business owners are often more concerned about your satisfaction and they put more time and effort into their items than the larger businesses that mass produce their stuff.
  • You can support the small craft business of your choice thus supporting the “little guys” instead of the large corporations.
