3 weeks postpartum: Still in a daze trying to grasp it all.

Today Everly is 3 weeks old, we've been parents to our beautiful daughter for 21 days. 21 days seems like way more than it currently feels like. Shoot, I am still in a daze and haven't quite grasped that she came from me and how truly amazing that is. We've started printing out some of the photos from the birth and the first few days of her life. They help to make the birth seem that much more real in my mind but I know I still haven't totally grasped the entirety of it all. Eventually when I am feeling less depressed and emotional I'll watch the birth video and take stock. It's crazy how I was there birthing her totally unmedicated and I still don't have a complete grasp of how...

Taking the next step towards birthing at The Farm

After talking right through the New Years Eve countdown N agreed that we would make the trip down to The Farm in TN and take the next step towards planning our birth there. The financial aspects of our situation really bother me and they are the only reason why we would choose not to birth at The Farm. Watch Freebirthing on Discovery Health next week!

The Discovery Health channel will be airing "Freebirthing" several more times next week if you are at all interested in alternative birthing practices. Freebirthing is basically unassisted childbirth, women who usually have low risk pregnancies learn about the birth process and carry it out on their own without doctors or midwives. They simply tune in to their own bodies and trust that their body already knows how to birth. A quote on unassisted childbirth from www.unassistedchildbirth.com "A woman in labor needs to be supported emotionally, or simply left alone. All the knowledge she needs to birth her baby is already within her. Her job is simply to relax, trust her body, and allow her baby to enter the world." After reading many birth stories I've become more of believer...

Old-Fashioned Know How- Do it yourself remedies

I have always been interested in homemade remedies/ do it yourself remedies. Often times the remedies are cheaper, healthier and easier than conventional remedies plus they make you more self sufficient and they get you back to a simpler lifestyle. In earlier posts I talked about how to make simple yet helpful cleaning solutions with products you already have in your home. You can remove stains, disinfect, whiten your teeth and much more without buying expensive specialized products. In the next few weeks we are moving out of our current place and into an new one. This means massive amounts of cleaning and fixing will occur and I am trying to find simpler ways of doing this. My first old-fashioned know how concoction I want to share with you is homemade spackle- hole...
