Job Searching

Remember when…

Remember when I outlined all N's job uncertainty in this post back on May 2008? Back then we still had no idea where his job search would take us and we were pretty worried that we would end up stuck with the status quo if no better offers came along. We were barely making end meet, were financially frustrated, itching to start a family, had no chance of buying a home and were ready for a little more job security. Too bad my lady doctor said I was not fertile because of my low weight and N's job told him they really valued him but could not increase his salary from here on out. That was 5 months ago...

Tonight one door is closing…

The last newscast is tonight. N will anchor it with several of his other coworkers. This will be the sign-off broadcast for the station, can you believe it? This particular chapter in our lives is very nearly over, it is very surreal. We are obviously happy and excited for our new opportunities despite the inevitable sadness of leaving the past behind. We are also counting our lucky stars that we were ready for this fallout. It's been quite the journey that is for sure! Many lessons have been learned and we are totally ready for the next door to open for us. I am planning to go watch the taping of the last broadcast over at the station tonight. Then N and I will be attending the sign-off party the station is...

Our news has finally arrived!

This post is password protected because some of N's coworkers are nosy and vindictive and he really wants to keep this info private until he has the chance to tell his boss himself. After we stressed out and had anxiety, my cycle got all jacked up with the stress, N's was just walking around with his "poopy pants on", we felt angry and unprepared, we sent out about 15 resume tapes, applied to 6 jobs online and the very next day we get the long awaited job offer. It is exactly what we asked for in negotiations, we are thrilled and very relieved! It is for $55,000-$60,000 over three years, plus grooming perks, benefits after 30 days, $1500 in moving expenses oh and the cost of living is 10% lower there than...

A book meme and more waitin'…

Teeni posted a book meme I thought was fun, I have done it before but it still amuses me and it takes my mind off all the job stuff that has really begun to wear on me. Here are the rules for the book meme: Step One – pull out a book on the book shelf. Step Two – go to page 123. Step Three – read and write out the 5th sentence. Step Four – tag 5 more people. I am currently reading Snow Blind by P.J. Tracy...

Just a waitin' for the time to pass, loo loo loo.

Last night we got an email from evansville confirming that it has indeed been crazy hectic out there as a result of the severe weather. They aren't blowing us off, they are just dealing with more pressing issues right now. N was assured he would get a call today, problem is he was sent off on assignment today so he is on the road. I am just sitting home, wasting time on plurk, a waitin' for some word from him. We are still waiting on the job offer before we make a decision about the car repair. If he gets a decent offer that we can accept we will just sell the car or something. Towing one less car out of state is fine by us, in the meantime the broken...

So much chaos and uncertainty in the USA right now *sigh*

I have been following the news of the massive flooding occurring in the Midwest right now since Indiana is a place we may be relocating to. Many people are displaced and have had their homes ravaged by the flooding and storms. Wisconsin, Indiana and Iowa are in a state of emergency as a result of the flooding and the video footage is just heartbreaking to see, houses are just being swept away by raging waters. In the east people are experiencing a heat wave as temperatures reach triple digits and earthquakes are devastating many in places such as Nevada, California and Greece. I was left thinking "Holy cow, what is going on with the weather" after learning of all the chaos. Add the weather stress to the economic stress of fast...

Same ole crap different day.

Just wanted to post a little update on the job search saga before we head out of town for another weekend gathering. N called Evansville and asked if there was some miscommunication over the posted salary. He explained that when he applied it was listed as 70-80 thousand and that the actual job offer was for exactly what he is making right now. Turns out the station manager didn't know the job was listed at such a high salary and he had no idea what N was already making. The HR person in Evansville who listed the job apparently was mistaken over what job she was listing. N explained that at the offered salary the move was not justifiable and that he couldn't accept the current contract. Evansville said they would need...

More anticipation….

Lets see I had Monday off from teaching for memorial day but had to show the house to a bunch of inspectors. I teach my class tomorrow and will perform with my students Wednesday night in a hip-hop routine that is a bit out of my comfort zone. N also leaves for Evansville Wednesday so it is a very exciting day for us. He will keep me posted on the progress of his interview but I'll also be leaving for California with my students on Thursday so I'll be on the road too! We have some packing and loose end tyeing to do in the next few days! I can't wait to have his interview over and done with so we can have some info on the status of our future, the...

Reflections on past present and future.

Do you reflect on your life journey? Do you see how one thing leads you to another, does it help you to face the future and the present? Looking back and reflecting upon the journey is something I tend to do. It gives me perspective on the current events when I look back to see how we got here. I always try to see the positive side of things when I reflect and I seldom have regrets about things. I tend to look back and reflect after the accomplishments in life, it comforts me and gives me the strength to face what is in the future. N got the official "we want to fly you out here for an interview" communication yesterday after applying to a number of different places. He has...

The job search continues… Evansville, IN?

We just got a bite from a station in Evansville Indiana. We are excited about the housing prices/ the offered pay and the station is excited about N's skills and talent after seeing his resume tape. After chatting with the guy on the phone today N decided to go on to the next step with this station! The news director is meeting with his bosses to discuss the possibility of hiring N, if everyone agrees that he is a good match he will probably head out there for a face to face interview. Keep you fingers crossed for us and think good thoughts! This is a really promising opportunity for us. The station in Oregon never followed up on N's calls/ emails. They had a phone interview scheduled for last week, N...

Where do I start?

Okay, lets see- Saturday my students have their last/ championship performance and we are all so excited! Things will become calmer and more low key after this highly competitive date has passed. I am very peased with their show and have confidence that they are going to rock! In other news I am on day 2 of counting calories and things are still the same weight wise. I am even trying to limit the amount of dancing I do in class so that my chances of keeping some of the calories. Oh, my male finch got his head stuck in the bottom grate of his cage this morning. He was trying to get something down there, put his head through the bars and then got it stuck. He was making all sorts...

Persistence often pays off..

This is a lesson that is very apparent in my file right now. I try to teach my students that perseverance and persistence will lead you to great things. Often times we fell the urge to give up right before we are about to experience success. Those who succeed are often those who kept trying after all the others had quit. This idea is also proving to be true with the ole job search N has embarked upon. Yesterday after putting his resume tape online and applying to all the places he could he got a bite! Tri-Cities, Washington has scheduled a phone interview for Saturday with him. Yay. So, if you feel like your efforts are pointless and that you should just throw in the towel and give up remember that...

We already got a few bites on the job search!

Today several employers responded to N after he sent out several applications yesterday. This is a great sign for the job search but it also brings up a new technical challenge for me! One of the employers asked if he had some online footage they could take a look at, sort of a resume tape. Normally he would be sending out VHS tapes to stations that showcase his past experience but in this day and age of technological advancements it would be handy and obvious to be able to get the video to employers digitally right? This is something I am researching right now and trying to figure out how to make it happen. We want to have his resume tape/ video on his personal site and we don't want to use...

The job search begins!

The resume tape is just a bout done, there are about 4 months left on his contract and the job search is under way! Job searching can be a tedious and stressful time for anyone. You sift through the possibilities, talk yourself out of the ones you feel are unachievable and then you pursue the ones you feel best suited for. Eventually you end up with another less than fulfilling job somewhere else but is it the job for you? The worst thing you can do is sell yourself short when job searching. This is something N and I learned first hand a few years back. It's natural to not want to feel rejected so your tendency is to not be willing to put yourself out there when you aren't sure you...

Learning to attract what you want….

“The THOUGHTS we choose to think are the tools we use to paint the canvas of our lives.” - Louise Hay So much of life is a self fulfilling prophecy. We can very easily become products of our environment if we allow it. This is a very difficult concept for people to understand and it is even harder for those that have had trauma in their lives. It is so easy to believe that bad things are bound to happen to you especially when that is all you have experienced up to this point. but think about it, you were expecting bad things to happen right? Then they did and you proved yourself right which in turn solidified your belief in the notion that bad things are bound to happen to you...

Destiny and the journey of life- everything happens for a reason.

Control is an illusion that we all struggle with. Do you believe you have control over your life? What does it mean to control your life? Can you control death and various other life changing events? Can you control the direction your life is headed? Your answers to these questions make you the person you are. When life-changing events take place many of us begin to analyze our lives and the steps we have taken to get to where we are. People ask "why me?" or "what could I have done differentially?". When we loose someone close to us we wonder why and we often do not understand the loss. Some will become angry or resentful others will learn and grow from the experience. I strongly believe that we are presented with...
