A look at the wedding though another photographer’s eyes…

Bridal Potty Time

We were lucky enough to have two different wedding photographers at the wedding, each with a varied style. They both did a great job as I’m sure you’ll agree.

In my previous wedding photos post I talked a bit about how lame I feel in posed photos and how lame I end up looking. I blame my general dislike for posed photos on my short preteen modeling career.

We never do the portrait studio family photo thing (well, last year was the exception), we much prefer to take our own photos as the “in the moment” shots are usually of the most value to us in the long run… but with a growing family of young, squirmy kids, letting someone else take the photos is honestly less stress and headache.

So, to make a long story short, we were open to formal photography for the wedding because it’s one of those things you just do right? We weren’t so sure about how well the photos would turn out, considering the subjects (LOL)… but MAN were we pleasantly surprised!

Eric Cook Photography seriously blew us away with their ability to take formal, staged photos of us where we didn’t look all awkward and overly staged. Even the unstaged photos (like the bathroom one you see to the left) look super fabulous.

A look at the wedding though one of our photographer’s eyes…

For the wedding we knew we needed to secure as many photos of the event as we could, but we didn’t have the budget for thousands of dollars for a wedding photographer, plus we weren’t really looking for someone to provide us with prints of the photos from the wedding… So we hunted around for people looking to launch their photography business (on craigslist!), who had photography skills and a unique take on wedding pictures.

Nathan has a funny story about the craigslist ads we placed, several stories actually. He should blog them… But to sum it up, we got a bunch of headaches and hate mail resulting from the ad and we also found many talented and passionate candidates.

Bubbly, burping beer.. fermenting in my bathroom.

My boyfriend, N, brews beer as a hobby. We have had several memorable beer brewing experiences. The first batch of beer he brewed blew the bottoms out of the individual glass bottles after bottling. Beer oozed all over the kitchen. Apparently too much yeast was used. Then next experience was homemade root beer soda. This was a slightly more dangerous experience, the one gallon glass bottle that the root beer was stored in completely exploded in the kitchen and shards of glass flew everywhere! I got a few nice welts on my neck from the flying glass, luckily I was not cut by the glass. The explosion was so loud and startling, I thought someone was shooting up the house! This time the beer is bubbling, burping and oozing out of the...

Hikes in Flagstaff, AZ

My younger brother is staying with me for the week and we made an effort to check out a few sights and hikes in the area for entertainment. This first photo is of us at Walnut canyon is filled with Indian ruins that line the cliffs of walnut canyon. We hiked a 185 feet climb in 204 steps. It was a great hike going down because gravity worked in our favor.. We practically ran down the 204 stairs because it was easier. After the 204 stairs we walked the path that takes you all the way around the "island" in the middle of walnut canyon. We got to actually go into the rooms of the ruins. The weather was perfect for the hike. We got to walnut canyon (just...

This "holiday weekend" sucked!!

Sometimes I just hate holidays!! I am usually working on holidays which means I am waiting on other people, ensuring they have a wonderful time and all that… Holidays mean overly excited people who are usually also very picky and impossible to please.. I am sure you can already tell that my holiday weekend did not go that great. I went down to Phoenix for my brother's graduation. We are so proud of him, we went out for ice cream to celebrate and then we went to the Scottsdale courthouse to take care of my other brothers warrant. All that went fine and it was nice to see the family. At about 7:30pm I was heading back up the hill to flagstaff. I had planned to head home at right about sundown...

Sometimes you have to speak up for yourself!!!

Okay, so this morning on my way home from work I fell asleep while driving!! Nothing too terrible happened, just drove off the road on to the shoulder. Didn't hit any cars, people, animals or trees! I was very shook up though! I have never dozed off while driving, EVER!! Today was my first and man was it scary! I called Nathan so he could help me stay awake till I got home. So I had to put my foot down with the boss about the scheduling thing...

Hola maintenance!!! Apartment living blows.

So, the new apartment (apartment #2 in flagstaff @ Timberline Village) is slowly getting unpacked and things are becoming more and more normal by the day. We are keeping the cats locked in our bedroom at night then we let them out to roam the house when were around to supervise them. One of my students had a really good idea on how to keep them out of the window. She said “you know the rolly things that you put your computer chair on? The downside is all pokey so if you get one of those and cut a piece just big enough for the window ledge it should work.” I think we will try that idea, it will probably work great!! Morgan you should get patent on that idea!! So...

Rootbeer explosion!!!!

Okay so here is a funny AND very true story: So N brews his own beer. He decided to try out a batch of root beer for us to try. So it has yeast in it, it sits and ferments creating the carbonation. It was brewed in a one gallon glass bottle/ jar thingy. You know the kind you can buy gallons of beer in at a microbrewery… He followed all the steps and we tried our first glass. It has a real yeasty taste to it, tasted more like beer than root beer. We didn’t like it very much. Anyway he took it out of the fridge because we didn’t like it and hadn’t planned on drinking anymore of it. It was sitting on the counter, we hadn’t gotten around to...
