Getting back to teaching, once Tater is born.

Life never ceases to amaze me! I am marveling at how easily some things just fall in to place in life and I am super excited that another door has opened for me. Remember how I was working with a few different colorguard/ winterguard units back in Flagstaff, AZ that we had to leave behind when we moved all the way to Indiana? Well I always knew something else would come along for me at the right time. We just weren't really sure when that right time would be. I had a few local contacts in Indiana and some possibilities to consider before making the big move but ultimately decided to wait on making any commitments until we were in our new city and settled. Offers came and went, possibilities were still...

Where do I start?

Okay, lets see- Saturday my students have their last/ championship performance and we are all so excited! Things will become calmer and more low key after this highly competitive date has passed. I am very peased with their show and have confidence that they are going to rock! In other news I am on day 2 of counting calories and things are still the same weight wise. I am even trying to limit the amount of dancing I do in class so that my chances of keeping some of the calories. Oh, my male finch got his head stuck in the bottom grate of his cage this morning. He was trying to get something down there, put his head through the bars and then got it stuck. He was making all sorts...

Let the madness begin!

Well, I am excited and a bit frazzled all at the same time! It's interesting how that works huh? Today I have after school practice with my winterguard students, during the practice we are heading over to the local charter school to do a dress rehearsal for their talent show (that we are performing in on friday). One of my students actually attends the charter school for her academic classes and then takes one class a day (mine) at the public high school since they don't offer a winterguard group at the charter school. Anyway, we are doing the talent show on friday after today's regular rehearsal and the talent show dress rehearsal. We have a "pre-championships" show 200 miles away on Saturday, then the students have prom that eveing. I am supposed...

We got 4th place! Watch the video..

Well, we are back from our performance yesterday. It was a long bus ride and a long day but I think it was well worth it. Here is the performance video from the Casa Grande Show yesterday. Casa GrandePerformance Video 2008 The ladies did a very nice job. We changed and fine tuned lots of stuff in the two weeks we had in between shows. It appears all the changes and finishing touches we put on things paid off.Last performance we were awarded 7th place with a 55.5 score. Here is how we looked 2 weeks ago:  [youtube iGVQJomxOIQ Mesquite HS Performace] I am very proud of all my ladies and am so pleased with their success, they rock! Can't wait for the next show April 12th.. It's only going to look...

Oh, the "death spin" or whatever it's called…

The things we do for greatness is crazy sometimes! My students and I are are working on fine tuning our show for our state championships. We are tweaking the end of our show per the judges suggestions but want to end the show with a BANG so I have one of my experienced members attempting the "death spin" as it was referred to on the show Your Mama Can't Dance. I often have LifetimeTV playing as background noise while I cook, clean or whatever.. Then this show came on and because I teach dance I was mildly intrigued. The first dance number had the "death spin" in it and I was all excited becasue a few weeks earlier I was teaching that exact move to my students and wanting to put...

Oh, the pain! Workout pains are killer.

Yesterday I did some light pilates moves with my students. We are doing many dance moves that require much body strength and I have found pilates to be the best way to strengthen many parts of the body in a low impact direct way. Well, we sure worked the body! My abs are sore in places I didn't think could be sore. Breathing hurts my abs! Oh and last night I had N help me work on a dance move (I was showing him it) and he was supposed to be spotting me during a backwards somersault that developed into a hand stand. Well, he missed my legs and my left knee hit the ground so hard that it's now quite bruised! I am so glad the weekend is here! I just want...
