My garden teaches me a lesson about life.

Yep you read the title right, my garden educated me today. Yesterday we spent money on our garden, you see we love to grow and enjoy stuff and since we had just received some product rebates we had some "free money". We couldn't think of a better way to burn free money. So we bought some perennial flowers, some berry bushes and some herbs. Our last danger of frost is like june 15th here in Northern Arizona so we had to cover and bring some of the tender plants inside last night. This morning when I was taking N to work we dragged the plants back outside to get some sun and I figured it would be nice to do my computer work outside to enjoy the warmer weather and the...

My bulbs are in bloom, April 2008.

I downloaded a free program called seashore that allows me to add watermarks to my photos on my MacBook so I can finally share them all with YOU! I have tons of things in bloom right now and am loving all the color. This one is Muscari that usually comes up with the crocus in early spring. They come in so many colors but I just love the purple ones because they contrast with all the tulips so nicely! As you know, for my birthday I got a number of plants and bulbs to enjoy! One of the plants I got was already in bloom, it is this Hydrangea shown at the right. It was actually forced into bloom earlier than it normally would so it is in a dormant state now...

Birthday photos shared!

I promised to post some photos from my birthday and I try to live up to my promises! Since I got plants galore you will be subjected to a slew of bulb information and photos but don't run away yet! We also have some adorable baby photos and some yummy fondue photos to share. First, I compiled a list of the plants I got, plugged them in to my Dave's Garden Journal with photos so I could remember what got planted where in a few months. It's so easy to forget what you have and where you put it when you have a garden addiction like I do! Peruvian Daffodil (view my dave's garden journal entry by clicking here) - Is a uniquw white flower with wispy petals and a sweet scent....

Woho… The crocus are in bloom!

That means gardening fun is about to begin for us! The crocus blooms are a beautiful yellow and are quite cheerful. They are kind of short, like they were planted too deep but it still so great to see them even if they are short. Do you have any early spring bulbs that are blooming yet? I hope so because I am dying for spring time! So, now that the ice is melting and the bulbs are blooming we are able to get into the large box of crap that was left behind by the people who lived here before us. Guess what we found? Personal documents and credit cards, can you believe that? Teeni was just talking about how we all need to take steps to protect our personal information and then...

Our weekend trip to Grand Falls, Northern Arizona

On Saturday N and I headed out to Grand Falls to see the famous "chocolate falls" on the reservation. It is a little known wonder that is very cool! How many waterfalls have you seen in Arizona? They do exist and this is just one of them! It was an overcast day with beautiful snow covering the San Francisco Peaks. This is the view heading into Flagstaff, AZ off of I-17. We drove through flagstaff, AZ and headed east on I-40 towards the reservation. You can see the peaks (the San Francisco Peaks) from there perfectly. Here is the water that flows into the waterfall, this is the "little colorado river" with the peaks in the background. Here we are posing for a photo with our doggie infront of Grand Falls. The mist...

A rant about installation appointments

Well we are still waiting to have our phone/ DSL connected today. We had an appointment for a tech to come out between 12pm & 5pm today, it’s 4pm as I write this and nobody is here. The whole deal with service calls and connecting utilities is kind of silly. They need access to your home and they make an “appointment” to come out and complete the work. The appointment times usually span the entire day which is just silly. When you are moving from one place to another you are seldom hanging out in one place so the 5 hour middle of the day “appointments” are a pain because you can’t leave your new home to tie up loose ends at the old one cause you might miss your technician. It...

I don't want to be free boobin' anymore…

I am spending much of my blogging time over at Gather right now. Please forgive me for being boring and neglecting my blog but I am only 50 points away from a $25.00 Macy's gift card that I intend to use for my girls (yes the boobs). My bra has recently become even more of a torture device as the metal clasps have now become bent and broken- the stab me in the back now and I need a new bra for the ladies! Over at Gather you get points for reading and writing whatever you want, I have many writing friends over there and earning the free gift cards is nice! Anyway, if you are interested in that sort of thing join me over there. Otherwise I'll be back shortly I...

Working on the Nissan Maxima…

As some of you already know, our car died last week and we had planned to work on removing the alternator this weekend. I have never worked on a car before but we didn't let that stop us.We had our little manual for the job, it showed photos and directions for getting the tasks accomplished so we bundled up. Headed out to the freezing garage to shuffle boxes and make room for the car, we didn't want to work on the car in the snow. Once we made room for the car we put it in neutral and used another car to push it into the garage. We spent about 1 1/2 hours trying to get the damn car on the jacks so we could get under it.. Nothing we tried...

Sometimes I would like to just be a hermit.

Today has been eventful for us. We had to head into town to do some minimal grocery shopping so we did that today between my teaching class this morning and N having to work this afternoon. We shop at the local Sam's club, we buy food in bulk and make it last. Anyway when we pulled into the parking lot there were an unusual number of cars jamming the parking lot. We thought "what is going on? It's a Wednesday at noon why is everyone shopping?"...

Our oven works?? Now what do I do?

It's been a long and annoying 2 weeks since our stove caught fire and today I am here to report that it appears we can actually use the oven on our new for us/ used stove. Oh, joy. Guess that means I can stop eating large dishes of jello like it's going out of style huh? Random thought, I know but seriously I have been eating jello and craving it like crazy. We consumed one box already and I made up 3 more (yes 3) boxes last night for our chowing pleasure. I really don't need to be snacking on jello considering I have lost 12 pounds over the last 3 months and I am wasting away...

When life gives you lemons…

... smash them into a sorry pulp, take some photos and blog about it. Things are crazy right now (that is quite the understatement)... Our living situation saga just keeps getting more and more interesting as the days pass. Back on January 15th 2008 I wrote "You broke your toe? Want to buy a house?" where I shared with my readers the interesting letter we received from the owners of the home we are renting. They were expressing their "urgency" and wanted to work with us to make our ownership of their house possible. Back in August when we agreed to rent this house on a month to month basis my man was negotiating his contract at work. His contract stipulates pay over an agreed amount of time and a bunch...

Cuteness Carnival for you!

It's witchypoo's fault, she posted the cutest photo of a kitten today, I went to get a cup of coffee and found my own gato, Jack posing in all his cuteness and just had to share! It was about 57 degrees int he house when I took this photo, do you think he was cold? Then I started to recall other cute animal photos I have viewed from all my blogging buddies. Veronica also posted some adorable kitten photos that I loved! One of Veronica's commenters, Kim posted a priceless photo of a pouting child and I found a great photo of baby brotherly love over at My Little DrummerBoys. If you are looking for a laugh check out what good old fridge magnets can spell, pretty much sums up my entire...

We can cook again and we will be moving, again…

The last few days have been a bit trying for us as some of you know. On Tuesday night our gas stove/ oven caught fire and that was enough to make me drink hard liquor! Wednesday we were told by the rental company that a new stove was on the way but were not given a date or time for the stove delivery. For those who do not know we are actually renting this house on a month to month basis, it's for sale and at the time we could not commit to a longer lease, you can read more about it here. Anyway, we got a call from the rental company on Thursday morning regarding the new stove delivery and were also notified that there was a contract on the...
