A look at the wedding though one of our photographer’s eyes…

For the wedding we knew we needed to secure as many photos of the event as we could, but we didn’t have the budget for thousands of dollars for a wedding photographer, plus we weren’t really looking for someone to provide us with prints of the photos from the wedding… So we hunted around for people looking to launch their photography business (on craigslist!), who had photography skills and a unique take on wedding pictures.

Nathan has a funny story about the craigslist ads we placed, several stories actually. He should blog them… But to sum it up, we got a bunch of headaches and hate mail resulting from the ad and we also found many talented and passionate candidates.

Some insect ate my face and we had fun sightseeing in Tennessee!

I got to attend my prenatal visit at The Farm with a giant swollen bump on my face from a spider or something! It was swelling and itching and I even had itchy red eyes for part of the day. Add that to the giant cold sore on my lip and I was a walking face full of nasty! Other than the prenatal visit and the face of nasty we did have the pleasure of sightseeing throughout Nashville and neighboring areas of Tennessee. We stayed at a cheap Red Roof Inn Saturday night and had linner at Whole Foods that day (linner is a combo of lunch and dinner. A un-word N uses for fun). We were both really beat by about 5pm-6pm that day. After all we did wake up at...

7 days to go and we have news!

Our going away party was yesterday as most of you know. Our crazy week of working the week before pretty much left us unprepared for the going away party. Our house was just trashed. So we spent much of yesterday morning straightening and cleaning in preparation for the party. N insisted that we go for a nice drive before the party started, you know one last calm time together before the chaos of it all. So we head up the San Francisco peaks, N said it was his favorite drive and it is very pretty. So we are driving along and enjoying the scenery. When we get to the lodge we see that the ski lift is running. We have never skied or been on the ski lift so we get...

Flagstaff, AZ is officially loosing it's local news coverage. KNAZ-TV/ 2News is being taken off the air, it was officially announced to employees the afternoon of August 6, 2008. KNAZ-TV/ 2News will do their last broadcast August 15 2008 at 10pm. If you are interested in seeing the coverage channel 2 did on their own shutdown you can follow this link to view the report. Don't expect to read about it in the local newspaper, they are slow to the punch. Locals will still get to see weather and possibly a local story on the Channel 12 news but it just wont be the same...

Whew, it is OVER!

You asked for it! Here is the scoop on the yard sale weekend complete with photos. My brother, mother and niece came to spend the weekend with us, to help and add to the excitement. My niece, Hazel was teething so she was tired and semi-cranky. Here is a photo to illustrate her mood: We were not so motivated the first day because we didn't sleep much the night before. My family was supposed to arrive at our place around 11:30pmish but were delayed in getting on the road and actually didn;t arrive till about 1:45am. We were waiting up for them and we watched the movie Cloverfield while we waited, it was an interesting movie! It sure kept us awake. After the family arrived I didn't get to bed till after 3:15am...

Thoughts on struggle and peaceful garden photos

To me the hardest thing is to watch a loved one go through trying times and to not be able to help them. My brother is dealing with some heavy stuff right now. He had a child with a girlfriend and they have just come to terms with the idea that they can't be together as a couple. His daughter and now ex-girlfriend just left his house to be on their own. He is not on his daughters birth certificate because his pregnant girlfriend was a minor when she gave birth. Ugh, it is a whole slew of drama that I don't want to bore you with. Basically sitting by and watching him make his choices and watching him struggle is killing me. As outsiders to the situation we can see...

Finding rental houses (not apartments) online…

I have never understood why finding rental homes online is so much more difficult than finding apartments. When we moved out to Flagstaff, AZ we rented several apartments over the course of 2 years. Apartment complexes just don't make things easy for multiple pet owners and families with kids seldom want to live in an apartment setting. Sometimes renting an actual house is better but finding them is never easy! I thought it would be helpful for others if I complied my rental home resources. This is not a sponsored post but I have had the opportunity to to business with several companies on the list and will link you to the posts made when I lived in homes under the particular company's management. Hopefully this list is helpful to some...

Updates and breaking news!

I am home today and am enjoying the weekend. The colorguard camp ended Saturday and it went very well. They kids learned so much and were a blast to work with. Now I am ready for some rest this weekend and to make some progress at home! N and I looked at a Winnebago Saturday afternoon that was another great option for us! It was in great condition and was at a reasonable price! We are strongly considering it as our "winner" but are planning to have it inspected by a certified mechanic first. We spent the afternoon trying to get stuff done for the yard sale and the move. N painted up some of our older gardening furniture and planters for the yard sale. I thought it would be a good idea...

Making the yard sale happen!

Well, I am going forward with the yard sale.. I want to have it July 26th & 27th in my driveway here in Flagstaff. My mother has agreed to visit for the weekend and help us, yay! We will drink brandy all day and sit in the driveway trying to sell off our crap! Maybe we can even have the Nissan brought back up here for the yard sale so we can sell it that same day! Oooo, maybe our doggies old owner could visit that weekend also! You see we got our Dixie on freecycle and we have always offered to let her old owners visit her except it has been so busy that it has yet to happen. Maybe yard sale weekend huh? Yesterday I spent the morning out the...

The earth is cooking me!

Good lord it is hot here! Last night it was about 80 degrees inside our home (from the days heat) and about 60 degrees outdoors at 10 pm! A 60 degree night time high is considered quite WARM here and we were baking. We went through the storage shed and dug out the fans, set them up in the windows and tried to cool the place down so we could sleep. It's too darn hot! Now I just know some of you are moaning and groaning about how I think it is hot here. I am sure it is also quite hot for you but do you have AC? We DON'T! AC is not standard in homes up here in good ole Flagstaff, AZ. That is just th way the cookie...

Snow in may, what is going on? and Mothers day weekend – part 1

Well, I awoke this morning to lots of fluffy white stuff falling and covering everything. We were foretasted for some thunderstorms last night and today. The possibility of snow was mentioned but no accumulation was expected. Here that means the snow melts as soon as it hits the ground. Doesn't look like that is the case today, the schools called a 2 hour snow delay and we had to scrape snow from the car before I could take N to work. I am sure it will melt away throughout the day. It is May for crying out loud, snow in May is not the norm! We got back from visiting my mother yesterday and were exhausted. N had been on the road for 2 days prior to us visiting family then we...

Are you celebrating today? Happy day!

Today is Cinco de Mayo and it also happens to be N's birthday. He is working today so we celebrated his birthday yesterday. We headed out to the Grand Canyon Deer Farm that is just west of Flagstaff on old route 66, then we stopped in at Pine Country Restaurant where they are famous for their yummy pie. We had a nice day out and about then we headed back into Flagstaff, stopped at Bookmans to trade in some stuff and get some movies. Once we got home from our outing N opened his awesome green friendly birthday gift. I made a red velvet cake (from scratch) for N's birthday and my famous moist roasted chicken for dinner. We had a very nice day together. I snapped some photos to share...

Silly town commericals

This one is for Janelle! She posted about a silly commercial that aired in her town and encouraged her readers to share commercials from their town. Since my satellite dish can't find a signal (it's covered in snow and I am too darn cold to climb on to the roof to brush it off) I went to youtube to search for already uploaded commercials about our town's services. I can't decide which one is the best...

Sometimes I would like to just be a hermit.

Today has been eventful for us. We had to head into town to do some minimal grocery shopping so we did that today between my teaching class this morning and N having to work this afternoon. We shop at the local Sam's club, we buy food in bulk and make it last. Anyway when we pulled into the parking lot there were an unusual number of cars jamming the parking lot. We thought "what is going on? It's a Wednesday at noon why is everyone shopping?"...

We can cook again and we will be moving, again…

The last few days have been a bit trying for us as some of you know. On Tuesday night our gas stove/ oven caught fire and that was enough to make me drink hard liquor! Wednesday we were told by the rental company that a new stove was on the way but were not given a date or time for the stove delivery. For those who do not know we are actually renting this house on a month to month basis, it's for sale and at the time we could not commit to a longer lease, you can read more about it here. Anyway, we got a call from the rental company on Thursday morning regarding the new stove delivery and were also notified that there was a contract on the...

Hikes in Flagstaff, AZ

My younger brother is staying with me for the week and we made an effort to check out a few sights and hikes in the area for entertainment. This first photo is of us at Walnut canyon is filled with Indian ruins that line the cliffs of walnut canyon. We hiked a 185 feet climb in 204 steps. It was a great hike going down because gravity worked in our favor.. We practically ran down the 204 stairs because it was easier. After the 204 stairs we walked the path that takes you all the way around the "island" in the middle of walnut canyon. We got to actually go into the rooms of the ruins. The weather was perfect for the hike. We got to walnut canyon (just...
