We awoke to the sounds of our moving truck being dropped off this morning. The truck driver came a knocking on our door at about 7:30am to drop off our trailer so we can begin loading it. N stumbled out the front door in his underwear to greet the moving truck and advise them of where to drop it off.

After we got the moving truck parked and left in our driveway N crawled back in to bed and we were chatting about how the morning was beginning quite early. Then the home phone rings, he runs to answer it and it’s Qwest (or phone company) asking about how our shut off date is 9/2 but the new residents of this home want to turn on their service today…

After explaining to Qwest that we arent actually leaving this house till 9/1 they understood why our scheduled shut off date was 9/2 and they bumped back the new residents turn on date. N crawled back in to bed again and we snoozed some more.

After having the firts cup of coffee we ventured out to check out our moving trailer, it is a UPS fright truck. Strange huh? It is also freaking huge!

Since we were without a ramp and the truck was a good 4 feet off the ground we opted to tag team the loading. I stayed in the truck and arranged the boxes while N brought boxes out to the truck for me to pack. It worked well and we got quite a bit done!

We got all the boxes loaded that we could then we started loading the furniture. We’re at least half way done with the loading process and we are stoked to have gotten so much done in a day.

Tomorrow we are planning to continue the loading process and to take care of some other errands like visiting the post office, withdrawing cash at the bank and buying last minute grocery’s.

Yesterday N sucessfully drained the sewage tanks for the first time without spraying poo everywhere. He has nicknamed himself the “Sewage King” now, no poop spray is always a good thing right?

Ha! So that is the update for us in a nutshell! Only 3 days till we hit the road.

I know, strange headline huh? It’s for real though, I have tomatoes growing inside my home. They are in a window box and are a result of some cuttings we took. The tomato plants began flowering and we would “finger the flowers” or gently shake them to pollinate them since bees and humming birds are not in my house feeding from the flowers as they normally would outdoors.

Lots of plants require polination before they can set fruit, without pollination fruit will not set.

One of every three bites you take comes from a plant pollinated by wild pollinators.

Our tomatoes have been especially slow to set fruit this summer. Many are concerned about the dramatic decrease in the bee population because bees are our natural pollinators. Slow setting fruit has been linked to the decrease in bee population.

Tomatoes and Zucchini are our favorite, easiest vegetables to grow here in Flagstaff, AZ and we were looking forward to enjoying some fresh grown vegetables before we move. We weren’t sure if our plants would set fruit before we leave and this has been a bummer for us.

So, noticing the small developing fruit on my indoor and outdoor tomatoes today was super exciting for me. We also have some zucchini fruit setting right now. Woho our plants were pollinated! I would like to think that fingering and shaking the flowers has helped in the fruit development and I can’t wait for some fresh vegetables!

Oh and thanks to the bloggy giveaway I won a $10.00 starbuks gift card from The Adventures of Me. We are telling all our family and friends to buy us starbucks and walmart gift cards as going away presents.

We plan to use them to buy food and liquid crack (starbucks) while we are on the way to Indiana. Plus we have T-Mobile internet access at starbucks locations so we will be buying coffee while we blog and check our emails anyway. This $10.00 gift card is going to help us buy 2 free coffee drinks, yay!

Well, we spent the weekend dealing with yard sale crap and we even devised a little marketing ploy for our sale. N made up a nifty flier and I just posted it all over the internets this morning!

We are fleeing poverty with a view! A well known Flagstaff personality is leaving Arizona… Come buy our stuff and see us off!

This sale will take place on Moenkopi Trail in Kachina Village just south of the Flagstaff airport. July 26th & 27th. Sale starts @ 7am on Saturday and @ 8am on Sunday, come early to get the best selection (but not before 7 please). This is not a “regular yard sale”, we are selling so much more! Buy our stuff so we don’t have to take it with us! Bring your cash and swing on by, we hope to see you there!

A dresser, Bookshelf, Television, Radio, Singer sewing Machine w/ table, Computer desk, Loads of Men & woman’s clothes, Camping gear, Tents, Gift baskets, Purses, Working washer and Dryer, Stuffed animals, Toys, Kitchen table set w/ chairs, Movies, Music CD’s, Books, Magazines, Live plants, Snow shovel, Holiday decor, garden stuff and much more!

We have one more weekend to get our yard sale crap all gathered and priced. There isn’t too much stuff left to go through! We even compleatly cleaned out our storage unit over the weekend so we can cancel that service and save some money over the next month and a half.

We have almost filled one entire walk in closet with packed, inventoried and sorted boxes… I think we are on box 50 now. Thursday we will have the Winnebago here at the house, we’re picking it up and keeping it here after the mechanical inspection- I am excited! Things are progressing nicely and I am feeling much better about it all today.

A plumber came out yesterday to take a look at our flooding kitchen issue. He claims it was only a loose pipe, he didn’t investigate the “under the foundation” work the other contractor did on Friday. We have no idea if the flooding will return but I have cleared all our stuff from under the sink and now a bucket is down their under the pipe, just in case!

I am sitting outside writing this blog post as N continues to get his beauty rest. For the past few days we have been having some major allergy symptoms that are making daily activities difficult. This morning he was feeling much worse so he went looking for some dayquil in the medicine box.

Unfortunately all we had was NyQuil so he opted for some benadryl instead… That was at like 7am, he hasn’t been out of bed since…

So now I am writing a blog post in my mismatched clothes out of the porch, warming my bones (what it is chilly here in the mornings!)

Yesterday we made a ton of progress on the yard sale sorting! We have a giant pile of stuff outside and a second giant pile of stuff inside the house. We also went over to the storage unit and went through everything there. We brought home all the stuff we needed to get rid of.

This massive sorting process has shown us that we have way to many dvds, vhs tapes and cds for our own good. We literally have like 4 large boxes of them that we lug from home to home without ever opening them. What a waste huh?

So, we are feeling good about all the crap we have to get rid of. It is all pointless crap that we never use anyway… We are excited about selling it now, hopefully people buy it!

While we were in town running errands we also snapped a photo for Sarcastic Mom of the rain barrel for sale here in our town, if she likes it we will buy it on her behalf and send it to her…

She will pay for it of course, I just thought it would be nice to offer. I know how hard these things are to find! We got ours for $125.00 off a web-store after looking locally for over a year.

That is all I have for updates today! I am getting hungry so I think I’ll go make some breakfast now!

This post is password protected because some of N’s coworkers are nosy and vindictive and he really wants to keep this info private until he has the chance to tell his boss himself.

After we stressed out and had anxiety, my cycle got all jacked up with the stress, N’s was just walking around with his “poopy pants on”, we felt angry and unprepared, we sent out about 15 resume tapes, applied to 6 jobs online and the very next day we get the long awaited job offer.

It is exactly what we asked for in negotiations, we are thrilled and very relieved! It is for $55,000-$60,000 over three years, plus grooming perks, benefits after 30 days, $1500 in moving expenses oh and the cost of living is 10% lower there than it is here. Livable houses start in the $50,000 and go all the way up to $200,000 so we will totally be able to find something in our price range.

This pretty much sets the course for our lives this summer, we’re moving somewhere for sure! Now we just wait to see if any better offers come from other places as a result of the massive amounts of tapes we sent already.

We are open to any offer better than the one we are already sitting on but if we don’t see it in the next two weeks we’ll still have Evansville to fall back on, it is a totally acceptable offer to us!

Now I really have to get busy with packing and moving research! We were thinking of using a “you pack we drive” moving company, have one you would recommend? We are also thinking of trading the broke down Nissan for a running old beater motor home, or we will sell the Nissan and use the money to buy a used motor home…

Ugh, there is so much to do over the next 2 months but I am just so glad to know we will be doing this (for sure). Some direction is better than no direction, you know? So, life is about to get exciting for us again… I just know it is going to be a wild ride but I can’t wait.

I am happy to say that I am writing this post from the kitchen table of my home! Yesterday we booked a rental car to get us home, we left our car with the mechanic near my mom’s house. Before we took off yesterday the mechanic said that he thought the engine was shot in our car but that he was going to get a second opinion first. If the engine is indeed shot they will give us a repair quote and we will determine where we plan to go from there.

Now we are brainstorming for plan C… Do we pay $5000 to repair a car that is 10 years old and has tons of miles on it or do we trade the car in and buy a new one? We would love to have a hybrid to save on gas so that is a plus. On the other hand the broke car is paid off and taking on a loan right before we plan to buy a home many not be a good idea. Also, having one less car to move would be nice.

We still have our second car (that is mine) though N prefers not to drive it. It is a pink Isuzu Amigo, manual transmission and a torn up soft top. He doesn’t like the stares he gets for riding around in a pink car. It doesn’t go that fast so driving it into town is stressful on the highway but it does run and I just bought 2 new tires for it. If we could use the Amigo for the last 3 months that would save money and be one less thing we have to move later.

We could also buy a used 4×4 vehicle here in town that can pull a small camper. A friend offered to sell us her 4×4 wrangler or something and a small camper for like $1800. We could use the 4×4 for driving and then we will also be able to use it to pull the pet camper when we move, but gas will be expensive for us in a 4×4.

We also put in a loan application with the bank yesterday to see if buying another car was possible. If we got a small loan we would like to buy a used more gas efficient car but we haven’t really figured out which direction would be best for us yet.

We are supposed to hear back from the mechanic about the second opinion on the car today and perhaps we will get news on N’s job interview. We could really use some good news today…

So what do you think we should do and why?

Buy a new, hybrid car and trade in the broke one
Buy the used 4×4 and camper now and then have it to move
Don’t buy anything just use the Amigo till to get to where you are moving
Have the engine repaired.

Last week was the first week of being forced to showed our current rental home. The owners decided to put it back on the market 3 months into our 6 month lease. So, I was home last Friday when this Native American couple came with their agent to tour the home.

The showing was fairly quick and cordial so it was no huge inconvenience for me (other than having to wrangle the animals and clean the place). Yesterday we got a call from the landlords office to schedule another showing for this week, on Friday.

Then N calls me and says he just talked to J, our landlord, and it seems like the house is going to sell. The couple that came through last week made an offer on the house so it looks like we may not have to show it much more once it all becomes official.

Our lease is still valid through August so the new owners will have to let us stay till the end of our contract but it looks like ball will be rolling come August regardless of job prospects! We will be moving from this rental and hopefully to a new town where N is making more, we will buy a home, settle down and perhaps have a baby. Oh, yeah a wedding might fit in there somewhere but if it doesn’t we’re legally tied anyway.

Speaking of moving, we are toying with the idea of RVing the pets and ourselves to our new location when it is time to move. I am set on getting a beater RV, conversion van or similar that we can drive with the animals in it. We will sleep in camp grounds or parking lots on our way and it will be quite the journey! I’ll be blogging the experience of course and I expect it will be quite the adventure!

So we are looking for an RV that we can buy for under $2300, it will cost about $2300 to rent an RV and make the drive so I figure if we can buy something that will get us there that we will also own once it is all said and done it is a better investment! Well, I awoke this morning to lots of fluffy white stuff falling and covering everything. We were foretasted for some thunderstorms last night and today. The possibility of snow was mentioned but no accumulation was expected. Here that means the snow melts as soon as it hits the ground.

Doesn’t look like that is the case today, the schools called a 2 hour snow delay and we had to scrape snow from the car before I could take N to work. I am sure it will melt away throughout the day. It is May for crying out loud, snow in May is not the norm!

We got back from visiting my mother yesterday and were exhausted. N had been on the road for 2 days prior to us visiting family then we stayed with my mom for 3 days.. Basically he was on the road for 5 days straight.

We always have some temperature shock and allergy issues when visiting family down in phoenix.. It is generally 30 degrees warmer where they live and about 6000 feet in elevation change.. it kicks our butts! So, when we got home in addition to being beat I had to put the house back together (the cats usually freak out when we are gone).. That is why I posted a meme yesterday instead of telling you all about our trip.

You guys know that my mom and I set out to make soap for mothers day, my mom was really excited about it. She saw this particular recipe on Martha Stuart for goat’s milk soap that was all natural. The one thing my mom was not able to pick up before we got to her home was the lye needed for the soap. We went on a quest for lye, which is said to be sold at any hardware store. We went by home depot, lowes, ace hardware and even frys.

After hitting every store we could think of we did not find the lye, we headed back home to make some phone calls to track down the lye.

Nobody knew what lye was or carried it and the process of trying to get help over the phone was enough to make your blood boil. One place had us on hold forever (6 minutes) and then it turned out the phone was in an employees locker, that is why it took so long for someone to help us!

Lye is sodium chloride which is used in pool chemicals, drain cleaner, to make soap and a number of other things. Apparently it is also used to make meth (seen the movie Fight Club?) so commercial sale has practically been stopped and sales associates have no clue what lye is or which products contain it.

Many products contain Lye (like Draino, which also contains metal shavings) but finding pure lye turned out to be impossible in Phoenix. You can buy lye online but that wasn’t going to help us to make the goats milk soap that day.. So we decided to make the soap another day, when we can order lye online and have it shipped in.

So, we weren’t able to make the soap but we had plenty to keep us busy! I’ll post more about the trip tomorrow, lets just say it involves snakes, chickens and baby chicks.. It is way too much for one post!

Well, this was going to be an auto post for tomorrow since we are heading down to my moms house but I am just raging mad right now and have to share this shit with you guys!

Yesterday I mentioned that our landlord informed us that the home we are renting was being put on the market and that we would need to show the house to potential buyers, this is not good news to us!

We looked over our lease and had a family member and real estate expert, Jerry, look over the lease. Nowhere in the lease does it say that we are obligated to show the home to potential buyers and agents (like it did in the previous lease we signed for another home) but it does state the landlord must provide 48 hours notice of intent to enter.

We only have 3 months left on this lease and we would prefer to not be showing the home in addition to trying to plan and research a cross country move. Plus we have a medium sized dog, who is not friendly to strangers and we have inside cats who have to be prevented from escaping the house so allowing strange people into the home when we are not present isn’t really an option. It is barely possible when we are home!

So I went online to do some research. I found this page which outlines that in Arizona according to A.R.S. § 33-1343
“the purposes for which a landlord may enter a rental premises are to:

• Inspect the premises
• Make necessary or agreed repairs, decorations, alterations or improvements
• Supply necessary or agreed services
• Exhibit the dwelling unit to prospective or actual purchasers, mortgagees, tenants, workmen or contractors”

So it seems like we are going to be forced to show the home we are renting even though it was not agreed to when we signed the lease. Apparently that is the crappy law here in Arizona that favors the f*&kers landlords.

I emailed the landlord about how this is an inconvenience for us and I warned that our dog was not friendly and that entering the home without us being present was a very bad idea for them since our dog is not nice to strange people. I also stated that we were not agreeing to anything at this time because we were waiting for more information about our rights.

The landlord responded that we had nothing to agree to and that the only right we had was the right to a 48 hour notice of intent to enter. He also went on to say that after the 48 hour notice was given we could not refuse the showing and that they could enter whether or not we were home.

Then my phone rings and it is our landlords secretary stating that they were trying to schedule a showing for Saturday, which is 2 days/ 48 hours away. We wont be here for the showing but I am sure they will just do what ever the hell they want to!

I am now wondering if the landlord can “check keys out to possible buyers and their agents” and allow them to show up here unaccompanied while we aren’t present, I was under the impression the landlord had physically to exhibit the dwelling under this law, can they just give keys to anyone who comes by and allow them to enter after giving us notice? What if we aren’t able to be home, can they enter the home anyway? What do you think?

If they do enter the home they will be unpleasantly surprised and possibly bitten in the ass by our very protective dog.. Maybe we will leave some sex toys out around the house! Bet that would cut the visit short huh? I am so flipping MAD!

Today is such a nice day! Yesterday we got rain so the air is all fresh and clean today plus the sun is shining and it is a warm 63 degrees out. As son as I got home from teaching I got my bathing suit top on, grabbed my towel and headed out to get some sun on my back.

You see the band/ guard spring tour is coming up. I am chaperoning since I am a staff member and it is in California so that means pool/ beach time. living in a cooler climate has a definite impact on tanning. I have this sweet farmers tan from getting sun in my t shirts and I wanted to try to even it out today since the weather is so nice! It is kind of hard to see the laptop screen with the shining sun and sunglasses, I’ll manage though!

Oh, we got an email from our landlord 1st night that said the owners of the home we are renting decided to put the house back on the market. Our land lord said “he would not put a lock box on the house but that he would have Realtors schedule an appointment with us to view the house if there was interest.

There is no damn way we are going to deal with showing the house we are renting, not again! The home we just move from was also on the market and we signed a month to month lease (stupid idea) and agreed to take appointments to show the house when buyers were interested.

That turned out to be not such a pleasant experience for us for a number of reasons. First, we have pets we need to wrangle every time there is a showing. Second issue was that the Realtors that came to show the place were ass holes! Some made appointments but showed up hours early or late and expected us to show the house. Others didn’t even bother making an appointment, they had the nerve to just walk up to the front door, knock and expect us to show the house right then and there, while we were eating breakfast in our PJ’s!

When we moved in here we signed a 6 month lease, there is no “the house is for sale you need to show the place” clause in the lease. I am fairly certain we are not obligated to show the house and that it is “tough titties” that they decided to put the house back on the market while they have a legally binding lease out on the house till august.

We are having a family member who is also a Realtor/ landlord take a look at the lease first but we are planning to tell our landlord that we will not show the place. I am fairly certain they can’t force us to… What do you think?

In other news, N is being sent out to Utah again tonight so I’ll be on my own, maybe I’ll finish a book or something. This weekend we are heading down to New River to visit my mom and celebrate mothers day and her birthday. I expect it will be a relaxing nice weekend, despite the landlords crap.

So, we got this new coffee maker because our old one was like 10 years old and it took several hours to brew one freaking pot of coffee. It was evaporating the water before it managed to drip through the system and onto the coffee grounds.

N’s birthday is coming so I thought getting him a coffee maker would be a nice early birthday present for the whole house so I cruised on over to amazon.com and got a programmable coffee maker that arrived in no time.

Since N is away on business I have been the coffee maker and I suck! Well actually the filters suck.. We had all these cone shaped natural filters for our old coffee maker and for this new coffee maker we need the white basket type coffee filters. Being the cheap economical one I insisted we use all the coffee filters we already have before buying new ones..

Well, there is a reason they have special coffee filters specifically for specific coffee makers.. Each makers grounds basket is different and not all filters fit perfectly. Anyway, the coffee filter slumped over allowing the coffee grounds to escape from the coffee filter and they made it right into the coffee pot. My mom calls this “cowboy coffee”… Yuck!

Ok, so you own your own business, Hello!! something I have always wanted to do! How did you come up that idea for a business.

I came up with my business idea back in November 2005. I was making these little ornaments and gift toppers from candy, things like trains, air planes, snowmen and more all using candy. Someone remarked that I should sell them and that was what inspired me to buy a domain name and to start learning how to run a business.

How did you get your business off the ground?

I am a highly creative individual and my business idea stemmed from candy ornaments but I needed to expand my product line in order to reach people and allow my business to flourish year round. I just followed my gut feeling whenever I became inspired. It was super hard to keep my doubts under wraps. There were many times when I thought “what the heck am I doing?” or “am I crazy?”.. I felt the urge to quit many times and the “off the ground” part did not happen over night. Simply believing in yourself and trusting that your creative juices/ what inspires you is what you are meant to do keeps you going.

Looks like you like animals, did you grow up with animals? Did you have a favorite?

I do love animals very much! I currently have 7 zebra finches (5 are babies), a 10 gallon take of fish (that are also breeding), 4 cats, 1 bunny and a dog.. I love nature/ animals and everything. I had 1 dog as a child and it had puppies so I got to experience the miracles of new life at a young age. I also had cats as a child and would have to say my favorite one was my 1st kitty, Tiger.

When you 15 years old and thought about your future life, did is the life you are living now the life you thought you would have?

Oh, boy.. When I was 15 I wanted to be a singer/ performer. As a senior in high school I decided I wanted to teach vocal music, went to college as a music ed major and soon discovered the confines of school didn’t work for me. I have always yearned to do something that touched others and made an impact. Amazingly life has sort of shaped my experiences and has led me to work that I truly enjoy. I get to cross performance arts with “touching lives” and “making a difference”… I am a colorguard/ dance coach and choreographer now with my own business and I write in my free time. My jobs allow me to be creative everyday nothing is ever dull or confining and I grow everyday. I never imagined I would be where I am today and I am very thankful that I have been led in this direction because I love the life I am living.

When you are “blog surfing” what is something that keeps you coming back to certain blogs?

Honestly when blogger are interested in relating to their readers they are more likely to get return visits. It’s nice to build relationships with other bloggers via comments and posts. Blogger who’s topics interest me will entice me to leave comments, when bloggers respond to my comments or return the favor I will make it a point to return to their blogs so I can return the favor also. It’s all a give and take.

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

I can be either but am mostly a night person these days since my partner is an anchor for the evening news.. We cross paths before work and after so that keeps me up later at night. I used to work grave yard shift at a hotel, then I was all messed up! I was an early evening person then…

What are some of your favorite TV shows?

TV shows are currently leaving me hanging. I really got into Army Wives, Dirt, Friends, Six Feet Under and X-Files. These days we record Lost, Grey’s Anatomy and the X-Files reruns.

Do you consider yourself to be a good friend? What was the greatest thing you ever did for a friend?
I think I am a good friend but I often feel the need to distance myself from people because I tend internalize their feelings and issues. Learning to love unconditionally is the greatest thing I have ever done and it was the hardest thing too! I have a best friend that has taken a path that I felt was not the best for her. It pains me to see her struggle and to know of the pain and struggles she faces as a result of her choices. I love her and value the friendship so I have learned to not force my views on to her and to allow her to express her thoughts and feelings without telling her what she should have done.

What quality do you dislike the most when you meet someone new?

I don’t like when people are fake. Superficial relationships and facades are my biggest annoyance. I would rather someone be brutally honest than to hide things or pretend that they are something they are not.

Take a photo of your favorite place in your house and tell me what it is your favorite place.

My favorite place in the house… Hmm I am moving to a new place in 18 days but in my current place I am drawn to my living room where I sit with my laptop, TV and on my worn couch with the space heater pointed at me. It’s comfy to me.

I have always been interested in homemade remedies/ do it yourself remedies. Often times the remedies are cheaper, healthier and easier than conventional remedies plus they make you more self sufficient and they get you back to a simpler lifestyle.

In earlier posts I talked about how to make simple yet helpful cleaning solutions with products you already have in your home. You can remove stains, disinfect, whiten your teeth and much more without buying expensive specialized products.

In the next few weeks we are moving out of our current place and into an new one. This means massive amounts of cleaning and fixing will occur and I am trying to find simpler ways of doing this.

My first old-fashioned know how concoction I want to share with you is homemade spackle- hole patcher for your walls . Everyone hangs photos in their home, but when you move and your landlord expects you to patch the nail holes don’t go buy a product, make it yourself- from scratch! All you need is table salt, cornstarch and cold tap water. It doesn’t get easier than that folks! Mix 2 tablespoons of table salt and 2 tablespoons of cornstarch in a small bowl then slowly add 5 teaspoons of water to the mixture- it should for a paste. If it’s too runny the mixture wont work… Now just fill the holes with your mixture, allow it to dry and then sand rough spots down. If you want you can go over the spot with a wet sponge to remove the dust from sanding.

In the house we are renting they provided a microwave in addition to all the other appliances. We have the bad habit of microwaving stuff without covering it first.. Bad news, I know. Obviously we need to clean the microwave before we move and I thought it would be fun to use this simple and easy Microwave Oven Cleaner.

All you need to do is get a microwave safe bowl, add 1 1/3 cups of water and 3 tablespoons of baking soda. Put the uncovered bowl inside the microwave and run it on high for 3-5 minuites. After the 3-5 minutes is up carefully remove the bowl- It’s going to be extremely hot! and wipe the inside of the microwave with a paper towel or dish rag.

The water and baking soda will steam and cover the interior walls of the microwave then you just wipe the excess liquid and the microwave oven is clean! You can also substitute 3 tablespoons of lemon juice in place of the baking soda or you can simply microwave a bowl filled with 2 cups of white vinegar. They all will work to remove the mess that accumulates inside your microwave.

Things are crazy right now (that is quite the understatement)… Our living situation saga just keeps getting more and more interesting as the days pass.

Back on January 15th 2008 I wrote “You broke your toe? Want to buy a house?” where I shared with my readers the interesting letter we received from the owners of the home we are renting. They were expressing their “urgency” and wanted to work with us to make our ownership of their house possible. Back in August when we agreed to rent this house on a month to month basis my man was negotiating his contract at work. His contract stipulates pay over an agreed amount of time and a bunch of other legalities. We were considering refusing the contract and possibly moving to a higher paying area, possibly out of state. We want to buy a home and start a family… All of this depends on his contract.

Anyway we had expressed an interest in buying the home as we were signing the rental agreement… Come January when the economy is verging recession and we are locked into another 1 year contract the home owners contact us and ask us to make an offer on the house… We offered what we believed the house was worth taking our own financial situation into account and also the state of the economy.. No response from the owners.

Two weeks later on January 31st the stove catches fire (we don’t own it, the home owners do) and we are notified that the house has a contract on it and is in the process of selling. N thinks the owners only wanted us to make an offer on the house so they could be sure they were getting the most they could for it. Greed!

So, (I am getting to the “when life gives you lemons part, don’t worry) we come to terms with the fact the we have to move in 30 days and we begin lining everything up. Found a new house to rent, will sign the 6 month lease tomorrow.. Got a replacement stove delivered, the home owners bought a used one and have been working to bust out my bulk purse order (only 16 left to make).

Last night N and I were home together and I had planned to make my favorite Moist roasted chicken recipe, I get the chicken all ready and I go to turn the oven on… Recipe calls for baking at 450 degrees, I hit the bake button and NOTHING happens!

N tries to turn the oven on, pressed various buttons, reset/ off, cook time, bake etc and the oven wont turn on… It gives us an F 13 error code. What the f? He pulls the oven away from the wall to unplug and re-plug it in, maybe it needs a “reboot” or something. No dice.. oven will not turn on, it’s about 9pm now we are snowed in and can’t cook our food.

I was planning to roast the chicken and to bake some brownies, both are not possible without an oven but we are resourceful (here is the lemons part)… N goes out to the shed to grab this old rotisserie thingy he purchased before we first got together. We wiped all the salt off the chicken shoved it in the rotisserie for cooking. Then we grabbed this old toaster oven thingy from the shed turned the temperature to 300 and cooked the brownies.

It was a frustrating night of cooking but what can you do? I considered throwing the defrosted chicken out into the snow out of anger but that would have just wasted a perfectly good chicken..

I just can’t wait to move out of this house now.. The stove/ oven replacement is used/ not fully functional and I just feel like the owners half-assed that whole thing. Seems like they just want to make a quick buck off the house and that they have no regard for anything else. They supposedly remodeled the place and did all this wonderful work on it but so much was just sloppily thrown together (this may just be my anger about having to move talking so you be the judge and view the photo slide show of the house). I just feel sorry for the poor soul that bought this little place.

N came home for dinner last night and told me about the announced plan to offer “tax-rebate checks of at least 300 dollars per taxpayer, with some seeking as much as 800 dollars per person or 1,600 dollars per household”. They think giving people money to encourage them to spend more will fix all the issues in the economy? Can you believe that?

Most experts say that recession is unavoidable and that the announced plan is not going to be “the cure all “. You can listen to the audio segment and read the blurb about it here.

One of the major problems with the economy now is the huge overstock in housing. Sellers are asking high prices that most buyers can’t afford and if they can afford to buy getting a loan is impossible. People who have recently bought homes are in jeopardy of loosing them due to adjustable rate mortgages and increased debt to income ratio.

People are loosing their homes to foreclosure over adjustable interest rates, they have marked their home prices up and are trying to sell but the amount of foreclosures already are making the banks lend less which in turn makes it impossible for new buyers to buy the homes that are on the market and in jeopardy.

Another issue is that money is tight for most middle/ lower class families because oil prices are high, that strains the economy. Oil prices not only affect how much we spend in transportation it also affects the price we pay for food and other supplies because it takes oil/ gas to transport these items.

With money being so tight many people have managed to rack up high amounts of debt and have little savings, many people are struggling and I don’t think that a measly tax rebate check will solve the countries problems. It’s the “quick fix”/ half-assed way of trying to make things better.

Our country should be focusing on alternative fuel options, making home purchases more possible for the middle and low class families, paying workers more/ creating more jobs and improving home life/ life satisfaction.

Sometimes I just don’t understand how so many elected government officials loose sight of what is really important. I mean I understand that increased spending could boost the economy but just because spending has dropped doesn’t mean we need to increase it. How about we take a look at the aspects behind why spending has dropped and fix those underlying issues instead of just slapping a band-aid on the wound?

This announced plan is a lot like our countries obsession with many prescription drugs- a quick fix that just masks the underlying issues. I’ll save that for another post though!

Since moving to our new rental home we have had issues with our cell phone reception. We figured it was because we are now living in a more rural area but as it turns out we get reception just fine about a block away from our house but not at our house..

We have been conveniently ignoring the inconvenience this has caused. We have warned our family and friends to call us at home instead of calling our cellphones. We have adapted and now only really use the cell phones when we are in town and have reception.

Lately I have been irritated by the absurdity of the situation. We pay about $60.00 per month for two phones, 500 shared minutes, and unlimited night/ weekend minutes. It turns out we only use only about 70 total minutes a month and it just seems like a waste to pay for service that can only be used when we are out and about.

We have been doing some research on the t-moblie HotSpot @ home service, it would solve out lack of service issues and enable us to use our cell phones at home for long distance and all that good stuff. Basically you just get t-mobile phones that work with the HotSpot @ home service. The t-mobile rep we talked to said we would need to get their wireless router and also pay the HotSpot @ home monthly fee to use the service.

Luckily we are not the type of people who just take a rep’s word for it when we are learning about new services and technologies. We saw that the “t-moblie” wireless router they tell you to purchase is a linksys router and I wanted to know how that one was so special, we already own a wireless router so naturally I don’t want to buy another one. Turns out you aren’t required to but their router, they just strongly recommend it.

We have submitted our 3rd troubleshooting ticket to t-moblie about our lack of service here at our home. Since their website coverage map claims we do have reception we will have to wait till the results of the troubleshooting ticket before we can move forward and find a solution to our lack of reception. We would love to get the HotSpot @ home service in place of our current plan but we would need new phones.

Oh,well I guess we will just wait to see what the troubleshot ticket response is first! I am wondering if any readers currently use this service. If so would you please share your experiences and thoughts on the plan/ service?

Today, November 15th is America Recycles Day. Do you recycle? Do you know why recycling is important?

I want to encourage everyone to take some time to learn about the recycling today. If you have kids teach them about recycling too!

Did you know that “the average American discards 7.5 pounds of garbage every day”? So much of our garbage can be reused and it’s really a huge waste to just dispose of it when it can be recycled instead.

If you recycle at home you are taking a major step! There are many other ways you can help though. Do you pay attention to the packaging of products when you shop? Many types of plastic are not recyclable in our area so when we have the choice between many brands we try to only buy stuff that is in recyclable packaging. This sends a message to companies and it’s another way we reduce the amount of trash we produce!

Finding alternative uses for stuff you would normally throw away is another great way to recycle and eliminate trash production. We use our old kitty litter bins as planters in the garden and for storage of stuff. Milk jugs have many uses and you can even save those old plastic plant containers and reuse them in the garden! I plant my flowering bulbs in these and they are easier to dig up and the bulbs don’t get damaged!

Another way to celebrate today is to try some fun recycling crafts with your kids, these crafts use household products and are a great way to teach them about recycling and taking care of the environment!

Okay, so don’t get too upset. I know how annoying it is to see the winter holiday decor and gifts in the store before November but I am one of those people who doesn’t wait till the holiday shopping season starts. I like to get started on my holiday shopping way in advance so I don’t need to deal with the crowds and the crazy prices or the running out of products.

I also am a big fan of doing the holiday shopping online.. It’s so easy and the stuff just arrives at your house for you to wrap and make pretty. So, mail order or online shopping needs to be done a bit more in advance then say running to the mall on Christmas eve or whatever. That is why I am starting to do my shopping now… Are you?

I love to find stores that will give you free shipping or a discount for shopping online.. I just love a discount! I wanted to share this website I found that is sort of a collection of many stores and the many discounts they offer.

For example, I am a big fan of old navy and so is my boyfriend but we don’t have one here in our town. The online shopping coupons site (couponchief.com) has old navy as one of their participating stores so thanks to them I now know that I can get an old navy discount on the shipping of my order!

I am also interested in ordering stuff from home depot and learned that I can get a 20%-50% discount off my home depot order. Knowing I am able to pick the discounts I like really does entice me to buy from the particular store and I like to shop online anyway so this site is a big help for me!

There are so many stores listed on this site and it is nice to finally be told about the available discounts you can cash in on all in one place. This makes doing my holiday shopping online and in advance so easy and I am saving money too!

Hydrogen peroxide has a ton of household uses and is often forgotten or overlooked. Rinsing your mouth with a cap full of peroxide each day will whiten your teeth and kill tons of bacteria. A peroxide mouth rinse can save you the cost of name brand teeth whiteners and mouthwashes.

Did you know that Listerine white strips, oxiclean and various other household items only work because of the peroxide in them? Why buy several different products for different uses that all contain peroxide when you can simply buy some bottles of regular peroxide and get many jobs done?

Putting peroxide in your washing machine will also whiten and disinfect your wash, peroxide will also remove blood and other bodily fluids from your clothes.

Peroxide will add highlights to and lighten your hair, it can also be used in the bath to disinfect and to kill fungus on the skin and obviously it can be used in open wounds to clean and kill bacteria.

White vinegar is a natural disinfectant/ deodorizer and is used to dissolve dirt, soap scum and water deposits. Don’t be afraid to use as a deodorizer. Once the vinegar dries the “vinegary smell” will disappear and leave things fresh and clean. White vinegar can also be used as a fabric softener because it cuts detergent residue, this is especially helpful for those will sensitive skin

Rubbing alcohol is great for cleaning windows because it is clear and it evaporates leaving a clear and clean surface that shines. Combine 1 cup of rubbing alcohol, 1 cup of water and a tablespoon of white vinegar. Also, using newspaper instead of paper towels is another common streak free way to clean windows.

Baking soda can be used to freshen a refrigerator, to scrub rings around the tub and it can be used to remove stains on a variety of surfaces. A baking soda paste will remove sweat stains from clothes. Baking soda is used to clean silver, you can mix 3 parts backings soda with 1 part water or you can simply rub the silver with dry baking soda to remove tarnish.

Next time you take on a cleaning task try to use what you already have on hand and see how well those regular household items work!

Resisting the unknown or uncertain is very common. People naturally want to feel safe and secure. We like to know what we are about to encounter because we know exactly what we will get out of it. We are comforted by the consistency even if we are not happy with the results.

This is why so many people continue to live lives that they do not enjoy. Often times the fear of change itself is enough to keep us mindlessly repeating the same actions and choices while hoping for different result. We desperately want things to be better but we are too trapped or scared to try something different.

Overcoming fear of change is something I have struggled with for quite sometime. Many things were in chaos throughout my childhood and this left me longing for security and consistency in my adult life. I was always resisting change and I was unhappy because I was not allowing myself to experience new things that may be more fulfilling.

The bottom line is that change is not always a bad thing. Change usually leads me to new and better experiences. Each time you master something and become comfortable a new and more challenging opportunity comes along. At first glance it can seem like more work and struggle and this is why we resist. In actuality the sweet is not as sweet without the bitter, the same goes with challenge and achievement. Accomplishments are not accomplishments without something to overcome. Every change brings struggle but it will also bring new and better experiences.

I believe life is simply a number of experiences that lead to other experiences and so on. If I did not move to a new town, I would not have worked with certain people who recommended me to other people, who offered me a better job where I got more job experience. Every event and situation leads to the next and if you resist the opportunities, you will loose the chance to experience new things, to move forward and to become a better, happier person.

Changing the way you view change will help you overcome the fear of change itself.

Next time you find yourself agonizing about the unknown try to shift your thoughts to the positive side of things. What if I get a better job or meet someone new? What if I can buy a house? This type of thinking will give you hope and will make your dreadful change more exciting and welcome. Once you get through the change it will empower you and make you more comfortable with the unknown, thus making the next change more bearable.

So much of life is perception, if you expect bad things that is all you will notice. If you are hopeful and optimistic you will see the good in things and good things will happen to you.

Change your thinking and you will change your life!
