Seriously?! An Electric Toothbrush Turned This Mouth Snob Around! #ad

Being the child of an "oral hygene professional" means I've always got someone on my case about my teeth and that I've been exposed to an array of dental products. I remember as a kid, like in the 90's, we had one of those old school electric toothbrushes. It was nasty and strange. The darn thing vibrated my head so bad that it made me sneeze, get a runny nose and watery eyes. I've never really been a fan of putting a motorized device in my mouth, not at home and not at the dentist. I hated using that darn manual toothbrush with a passion but my mom hounded us each night and forced us to use it. The torture! So, you can imagine my joy when my husband got his Oral-B Professional Care SmartSeries 5000 Toothbrush in the...

Back to school with Scoolio-Von-Hoolio and OfficeMax giveaway. Get Organized Today!

Last week I was invited to participate in a "Get Organized for Back-to-School" webcast & twitter chat and it was a blast. First off I love twitter chats of any kind so I was stoked to participate, I was also interested in getting some organizational tips because our "office" is anything but organized. The idea of the webcast was that Peter Walsh and several panelists would present organizational tips for the home, for kids and for the classroom while allowing viewers to submit questions via twitter that the panelists would answer. N isn't the most organized person in the world so I was stoked to get some organizational tips from the webcast. They presented lots of good info and many good reminders about organization. Here are a few: TIPS FOR HOME 1) Find the...

The Filter Queen, a cute country home and more landlord drama…

Today was an early and productive day for us. We woke up and headed to our bank to discuss getting some legal documentation against our landlords. You see they closed their accounts prior to the beginning of February and our electronic bill payment to them (for rent) wasn't paid since their account is no longer...

Wild Salmon Fillets from Walmart are nasty! (are they even salmon?)

The nasty salmon has struck again! Last month I shared my theroy about how a piece of fish I ate that was supposed to be salmon was clearly not salmon. Well the fillets were the last ones in the freezer and we had already thrown the packaging away so we just moved on with life and got over it. Well this week for dinner I discovered another never opened bag of frozen salmon fillets in the freezer so I made some for dinner. I remembered the previous nasty "salmon" experience but didn't want to make a big deal about it, I was hoping it was just a fluke...

I can't sit idle, I am always working on something…

Just finished a ton of work on this blog! Some of you may remember my affiliation with PayPerPost back in the day. The idea was to try out sponsored blog post writing, you know to make money off the blog and my writing efforts. It went well for a while. I made a few hundred dollars during the year and it did pay some of the bills but I learned that my affiliation with them would impact my google page rank. See how I have no page rank as of the date I wrote this post? I did research on paid posts, page rank, learned stuff, formed my opinions and decided to try sticking it out with PayPerPost since they seemed like they were working to bring in advertisers who weren't looking...

I am home, woho!

Last night we got back to town at 1am. Our time on the party bus officially had ended! It was an interesting time. The party bus was so cool but not conductive to an 8 hour drive, things were a bit tight and uncomfortable but it made for some great memories. We had a great driver, Kevin, who took very good care of us despite the fact that one of our students hit the "dump" button instead of the "flush" button in the bus bathroom. Our transportation was provided by InTheSceneLimousine, an Arizona Based transportation company for those of you who are wondering. We had a very positive experience with them on this trip, besides aren't the vehicles awesome looking? The kids played movies on the bus, guitar hero, they could hook...

WTF, the shower curtain is making me crazy!

The rental we are in right now strangely enough came equip with shower curtains. When we first moved in the shower curtains wreaked of urine and the house hadn't been thoroughly cleaned so we contacted the rental company and they sent out a house cleaner. The house cleaner who barely spoke English told me they don't clean shower curtains. Since the shower curtain came with the rental it must be returned with the rental when we are done, that means I had to deal with it! I read somewhere that throwing the shower curtain in the wash would clean it right up so I tried it, the nasty urine smell went away! Just a few days ago the smell came back (no we aren't peeing on it!) so I went to work...

Where is your family tree?

I spent most of today piecing bits and pieces of information together to form my own family tree. Recently an aunt of mine found me from my father's side of the family. I haven't heard from anyone on that side of the family in 17 years and I realized how little I actually know about my family. Researching your genealogy can be expensive, time consuming and frustrating for those who have an interest in knowing where they came from. Also, just because you have no interest in your heritage doesn't mean your children or their children wont! Everyone should make up a family tree, it's entertaining and it will help your relatives, besides there is nothing worse than feeling like you don't know anything about your family! I found a very good/ free...

Adventures of traveling the pacific coast highway- Pt. 2- Spending to much time in the car is a bad thing!

As you can tell by the title of this post traveling by car to a distant destination is not always a good thing! spending too much time in the car makes you grumpy and irritable and you can't make tuna fish sandwiches while driving in the car (well you shouldn't). N and I visit California when we are able to take a vacation. He likes the ocean I like that there is so much to do there. California is our preferred destination and we have taken many trips there, in Adventures of traveling the pacific coast highway- Pt. 1 we thought it would be a great idea to drive from Arizona to San Francisco and to camp along the pacific coast highway so we could save money on hotel costs by...

Amaryllis time lapse video

Well, I did it! I finished my amaryllis bulb time lapse video. I actually wanted to make the video to show people how awesome bulbs are. It's not the best video ever but it's pretty good for my first time lapse attempt! I was taking photos for about 4 days.. Getting the lighting and background just right and keeping it that way was hard but it turned out alright! Tonight I had the most fun putting the slides to the music. I used Tchaikovsky's Waltz of the Flowers for the background music (hope that is not bad)...

Reviews on website hosting companies…

My website (Custom Gifts By Talina) went live in November 2005. Over the course of the last few months I have experienced many site building mistakes and frustrations. I am taking search engine optimization classes and chatting with several other small business owners on various groups (AZ Craft Biz Connection & QFLEA) to learn more about website building and marketing. I originally purchased service for 1 year with what I now know as a very bad hosting company (register.com). I learned I was not able to control my site construction as much as I needed and was not helped when I went to them to remedy this. Their "website now" service was not good for SEO and they were very unhelpful and basically refused to let me build my own...
