Life in Evansville

Still no snow and crappy car trouble…

The plan was to go out and pick up a few food items that were still needed for holiday baking and dinner, we were going to do this before N headed off to work this morning. This week our only car, the 1991 Isuzu Amigo, yeah the one I just spent $300 on a new top for started squealing whenever the clutch was engaged (it is a manual transmission). I first noticed it this weekend at the ballet while we were driving along together over the weekend. I commented about the sound and how it didn't seem like a good or normal thing N said it was the cold temperatures causing it and was done with it. The sound and also the fact that the clutch has been sticking and loosing pressure...

Getting the holiday ducks in a row and not looking like a hobo anymore!

Last night the temperature got down to 8 degrees here in Evansville, right now it is about 20 degrees and I am inches from my space heater trying to keep warm. Can you believe there are only a few days left until Christmas? We managed to get lots of stuff taken care of this weekend and we even got to see a holiday show while we were at it. We saw the Evansville Dance Theater's Performance of The Nutcracker on Saturday night. We were expecting some more like this video. What we got was not the traditional ballet presentation we were expecting (I am a ballet snob being a trained dancer and all) but it was cute and entertaining. It was also cool to see such a wide range of dancers executing the...

Cat poo, candles and flaming tales. More pet madness to share!

You know how sometimes when you do something you get this flash of disaster scenario warning you of the what-if's? I got one right as I was lighting a candle in my stinky bathroom. You see I was drawing a bath which is an immediate invitation for one of my cats to take a giant steaming dump and leave it uncovered in the box for my enjoyment. Nothing is more relaxing than a nice warm bubble bath and the aroma of steaming cat turd right? WRONG! So I am lighting a few candles to make it smell better before I get in to the tub. I set one on the back of the toilet and was about to walk away when I realized the lit candle was right next to the economy...

In Indiana breathing mold is okay but home birth is not, just an FYI.

Yeah I know the title seems kind of odd huh? I have been tying all sorts of weird things together these days like posts about a ladies hoo-hoo's and mold. This is just the way my brain is working these days...

I am just a tad angry right now!

Lets see, it has been 18 days since we sent off our rent check and our "we are concerned about mold" letter via certified mail to the landlords. As of today the letter STILL has not been claimed and is sitting at the post office. N called the landlord over the weekend about it and their response was "well, we've been busy and we figured it was returned to you already". She then said once it was returned to us we could "drop it by some store of theirs" or she could come by and pick it up from us. Yeah, you are going to have to come by and get it from us since your laziness is not our issue. We sent the letter off to you like we are legally...

Baby updates and talk on recessioning…

I am a day behind in posting about how the doctors appointment went and some readers are getting concerned. Everything looked fine at the appointment, Tater Tot's heart is still beating away and my blood work from the previous month came back 100% normal. I weighed in at 108, same as last time and the nurse was pleased. She said most women loose weight in the first trimester so it is great that I held at my same weight, now the weight gain will begin. Oh and please don't suggest that my boob size will quadruple. I know N would love it but if they do I might not be able to stand up straight. 1 cup size is enough growth for me. The only startling news was that for the last...

Holiday shopping highlights

I am officially done with my holiday shopping, woot! N and I went to some stores and got some stuff done today which was very productive of us. Here are some highlights of the day: I got to eat a greasy, salty, soft pretzel from Auntie Anne's today while we were in the mall. Salted pretzels are the best. N had me try on some bras at Victoria's Secret today so he would know my new size. Turns out the boobs have gone up a full cup size in the 11 weeks I have been pregnant. Mom may be right about how I'll gain 2 cup sizes by the time I am breastfeeding. N is pleased with the boob growth, what man isn't? I can't make it though a shopping trip without opening...

It's begining to look like Christmas! (but where is the snow?)

We are finishing up the holiday shopping this week and are ready for Christmas now! Things are pretty low key for us since it is just the two of us this holiday season. We aren't visiting the family for the holidays and we are kind of looking forward to having a low key holiday. Since it is our last holiday alone before we are officially parents it is kind of fitting. N has a scheduled "sick day" tomorrow so we are going to brave some of the stores to finish up some last minute shopping. We also may be going to a show tomorrow night if he can snag some tickets. It is the touring production of Ain't Misbehavin'. The basement is flooding again a a result of the pouring rain we...

NaBloPoMo ends and I made it!

Today marks the end of NaBloPoMo and I made it. Woot! We also went out and bought our christmas tree from a local boyscout troop. We didn't cut our own tree down this year as we usually do since we didn't have a feel for out new home town yet and we didn't have time to file for a permit. Next year we will try to follow tradition again. Anyway we are drinking eggnog and decorating the tree up tonight and we didn't get any snow. And the basement is full of water again since it rained last night...

Lookie what I got…

Just wanted to share the gorgeous soap I just got in the mail today from Maiden53. It is a bar of fresh and energizing tangerine soap, yum! I love handmade soap for a number of reasons. The main one is because homemade soap is usually more natural and it leaves my skin feeling so nice. After checking out the Garland Prarie Soaps page I got really excited about the occation soaps idea. N and I have been brainstorming fun wedding favor ideas and homemade soaps are a really good idea! With our forest wedding theme we wanted to encorporate the scents and textures of the forest in to the wedding reception. Giving individually wrapped homemade soaps to our guests is a very cute idea. Fun! Thanks Maiden53 for the bar of soap...

Fall leaves photos

I know some of you Arizona folk were asking to see some photos of the fall leaves in our area. There is a particular area we like out near the river front that consists of a bunch of very old Victorian houses. One of them is for sale for $230,000 and N keeps eying it. It is amazing but with the state of the economy getting approved for a mortgage is almost impossible. Anyway, the street is canopied with trees and is very beautiful so we took some photos to share with you. It is so beautiful! ...

Woho! Take it off…

... that is the kind of audio the news station hopes to get off the investigative story they sent him on last night. The destination was an underage foam party. From Sarah Palin to foam parties, what is next? Supposedly there is all this nastiness going on under the foam at these parties. Teens get STD's and lots of sexual action at events like this one according to the station writers that crafted this story. What is even better is they think parents are actually dropping kids off at this party and picking them up afterward. Have you ever allowed your teen to go to a foam party? What are your thoughts on them? In other news we spent the day grocery shopping and scored a pretty sweet deal. Just for fun while...

On Halloween we got legally married and voted.

While walking in to the courthouse this morning to be legally married we realized that we were being married on Halloween. Everyone was walking around all decked out in full costume. We didn't realize we were scheduled to be married on Halloween until we were walking in the courthouse doors and noticing all the dressed up people. At 9:45 am we were married on paper and official for the insurance that kicks in tomorrow, November 1st. Talk about cutting it close huh? Now our documents are official and our unborn child will have access to prenatal care through N's insurance. We don't see ourselves as husband and wife though and I wont be changing my name until we have our actual wedding with the family and friends after the baby is...

Remember when…

Remember when I outlined all N's job uncertainty in this post back on May 2008? Back then we still had no idea where his job search would take us and we were pretty worried that we would end up stuck with the status quo if no better offers came along. We were barely making end meet, were financially frustrated, itching to start a family, had no chance of buying a home and were ready for a little more job security. Too bad my lady doctor said I was not fertile because of my low weight and N's job told him they really valued him but could not increase his salary from here on out. That was 5 months ago...

The dress is here, yay!

I am 100% satisfied with my wedding dress purchase. I'll admit I was feeling a bit apprehensive about buying a wedding dress on Ebay but I did my research, covered my butt and when it arrived today is was better than I thought it would be! Yesterday I got a survey request from David's Bridal, they wanted to know how my dress shopping experience went when I visited their store. What a perfect opportunity to share my 2 cents! I took the survey and gave them a piece of my mind. I also told them about finding the same dress in my size for less. Anyway, when I tried this same dress on at the store the beading was all white and it was very pretty but my dress that just arrived...

It doesn't get more positive than that, now get busy!

Waking up in the wee hours of the morning has been a common occurrence for me this week. I am not sure what exactly is causing it but I am not sleeping through the nights. Anywho I was up and pissed off about it enjoying the sunrise and I got the urge to pee. I made the trek across the dark bedroom, across the hall and to the bathroom. I thought why not pee on another pregnancy test now? Since N was still unconvinced about the validity of my previous pregnancy tests we bought more and would continue taking them ever few days until solid confirmation was achieved. So I completed 2 things on my to-do list at once, I peed and did the pregnancy test. Now can I got back to...

My brain is mush, la, la, la (might be the HGC huh?)

My mind is in another place right now and has been for several days. I dropped a hint in the last post that nobody picked up on. Days like this just aren't conducive to being focused and serious in blogging so I am just going to put it all out there and quit trying to pretend like it's not on my mind. We have called our parents so now we can tell the whole blogosphere! You can click the images to enlarge them. That is the 3rd pregnancy test I've taken. I have been feeling woozy. I am not sleeping through the nights, I am peeing a ton, have been dizzy and super achy in my lower back. I have been keeping a journal of my thoughts each day we tested....

Oh, the street lights, are a fallin'

Yesterday while N was reading his magazines and books in the living room he heard a loud creaking sound. Initially he though it was a tree branch falling down like they all did the day Hurricane Ike blew through Evansville and we had to chainsaw tree to prevent phone lines from ripping and whatnot. When he turned around to look at what was falling he saw the strangest thing, a toppled street light in our neighbors yard! We watched the residents of the home pondering the situation and walking the yard on their cellphones. We figured they were calling the power company and the insurance company, you know notifying the authorities. 45 minutes passed with no sign of the utility company. N and I thought it was odd. Then the police officer that...

Published articles and too good to be true discoveries…

It is raining like crazy here today! N and I just checked out a local bridal consignment shop that had many dresses that were similar in style to the one I like. They were all smaller than a size 8 too! Also, I have another article published on the web today, I am a guest author @ itsevansville.com.  Turns out some classic Broadway productions are being performed in Evansville over the next few months, yay good theater! So I wrote about it for their site and can't wait to see a few shows with N. If you have time head on by my article (linked above) and show some love! Now for the "too good to be true" discovery: Remember the first wedding dress in my last post that I loved? Well...
